Is Monty Fox a cool name or too out there for real life?

We have been calling the bump Monty ever since we found out it was a boy and now hubby seriously likes the idea of it as a name - obviously would be Montgomery on birth certificate. With surname Fox I think you need a few syllables and part of me thinks it could work: good nickname, traditional but not popular and could work from playroom to boardroom. But I don't know if I have the courage to go through with it! Fwiw other options are Sebastian (which I love but is same initial as hubby and also name of good friend's baby so I'm not sure) and Douglas. Middle name will be Patrick after FIL.

Any advice much appreciated!

I love itGrin

I love Douglas!!

I'm sorry but Monty Fox sounds like the head master of a posh boarding school which might form the backdrop for a teenagers programme about a crime fighting schoolboy duo.

I'm not too keen. I knew a dog called Monty and he was horrible. Used to roll around in cowpats. Sorry, name association again.

Montgomery Fox is a brilliant name. It's the sort of name cool detectives in crime novels have. And Monty would make a refreshing change to all the Alfies, Charlies, Harrys etc. out there whilst being a proper known name.

dothraki · 08/04/2013 16:33

Ha - I thought cool detective too - or superhero Grin - much cooler than ^

Love it, you should definitely go with it! Ditto above sounds like cool detective.

ZolaBuddleia · 08/04/2013 16:53

Absolutely love it! Fox is a fab surname. Envy

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 08/04/2013 16:56

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/04/2013 16:58

BuggedByJake · 08/04/2013 17:03

Love it. I really like Monty but dh thought it was too 'try hard'. Monty Fox is a brilliant name Grin

MolotovCocktail · 08/04/2013 17:04

It is very cool to my ears, but I can only see it working if Monty is in a 'naice' school, and not the kind of shit comprehensive I went to, IYSWIM. Very much depends on your/his social circle.

Really, really like Patrick, too :)

2beornot · 08/04/2013 17:06

I love it. Wish I had a surname that was cool!

FreddieMercurysBolero · 08/04/2013 17:07

That's fab. I know a Sandy Fox as well, which has the same sound to it. (she is also fab):)

dizzyhoneybee · 08/04/2013 17:07

go for it :)

BuggedByJake · 08/04/2013 17:07

actually this is the best name I've heared in ages & a bit Envy I can't use it.

dizzyhoneybee · 08/04/2013 17:08

though, as an afterthought, be prepared for comments from people you know about "The Full Monty" Grin

BuggedByJake · 08/04/2013 17:09

Oh dizzy don't spoil it Smile

NadiaWadia · 08/04/2013 17:09

I'm not trying to be mean, but it could be seen as sounding like a glove puppet or cartoon character? Just the combination with your surname. Sebastian is great, BTW, and doesn't give this impression.

Caladria · 08/04/2013 17:10

Douglas Fox has a magnificent 1940s detective ring to it.

MinnieBar · 08/04/2013 17:10

Go for it!

WheresMyCow · 08/04/2013 17:10

I like it Grin
