Is Monty Fox a cool name or too out there for real life?

We have been calling the bump Monty ever since we found out it was a boy and now hubby seriously likes the idea of it as a name - obviously would be Montgomery on birth certificate. With surname Fox I think you need a few syllables and part of me thinks it could work: good nickname, traditional but not popular and could work from playroom to boardroom. But I don't know if I have the courage to go through with it! Fwiw other options are Sebastian (which I love but is same initial as hubby and also name of good friend's baby so I'm not sure) and Douglas. Middle name will be Patrick after FIL.

Any advice much appreciated!

Monty Fox is a wonderful name! Douglas is awful though...

Ham69 · 08/04/2013 21:52

Monty Fox- love it!

chicaguapa · 08/04/2013 21:57

I like Monty Fox and Dougie Fox. They both sound quite American though.

KittenOfDoom · 08/04/2013 23:03

Terrific name!

There's also Montague to get Monty (which I think is where the expression 'full monty' comes from - wasn't it a tailors/menswear shop, Montague Burton I think)

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 08/04/2013 23:07

I love Montgomery Fox so much I'm actually wishing it was my name Grin Go for it!

NorksAreMessy · 08/04/2013 23:11

Or Montmerency Fox?

He might need a teeny tiny baby monocle as a first present.
Possible a tiddley silver topped cane?
And you definitely need to sharpie on a moustache by about day three.

I love the name

catgirl1976 · 08/04/2013 23:44

It's so good I am actually considering leaving DH, finding a man named Fox, marrying him and bringing forth a boy child just so I can use it Grin

colditz · 08/04/2013 23:53

Actually that is really really cool. Montgomery Fox, Private Investigator. Montgomery Fox, Olympic Champion. Dr Montgomery Fox.

I like it.

sashh · 09/04/2013 04:46

I love it. It's the kind of name you can take anywhere and fit in.

Apparentlychilled · 09/04/2013 04:51

I love it! And if he doesn't like it when he gets older, he can use his middle name. (Which isn't meant as a dig, I gave DS a name my DH was 90% about, on the basis that he got a v classic middle name to use if he didn't like his first name when he got bigger).

Go for it!

ScumbagCollegeDropout · 09/04/2013 05:33

Love it!

Brilliant name Smile

dizzyhoneybee · 09/04/2013 07:33

If you do go for the name then you must buy him this

Bonsoir · 09/04/2013 07:38

Monty isn't cool. Sebastian, Douglas and Patrick are not cool either.

Idreamofjeanie · 09/04/2013 12:11

Wow, thank you so much for all the responses! Feeling a lot more comfortable about the name now although I take on board the comments that it's a name he'll have to live up to. Still have 4 weeks to go before we meet him and make the final decision.

Dizzyhoneybee - I am going to order that babygro right now!

I agree with Bonsoir. They are nice posh names so if that is what you are looking for they are great.

Good luck with the birth! Hope it all goes well.

MandragoraWurzelstock · 09/04/2013 13:31

I like Montgomery but not Monty as it sounds very pretentious to me. Just associations - sorry.

rockinhippy · 09/04/2013 13:42

Montgomery Fox has a real film star/Scientific genius ring to it - he's destined for greatness - GO FOR IT!!!

Rosebelle · 09/04/2013 13:46

Montgomery Fox is an ah-maaaah-zing name!

Definitely definitely.

Douglas Fox doesn't "go". Doug Fox odd sounding and looking. Sebastian and Patrick - no.

Monty Fox is fabulous. if you were suggesting Fox as a middle name I might think that was try-hard but if your surname is actually Fox it is too good for words.

Montgomery/Monty Fox has winner's name written all over it. It is a positive, happy, powerful name. I do not think it is "too much" (if you knew me as a person in RL, my friends and fam would tell you I am the kind of person who tweaks things endlessly to get them "just right"... looks at 100 shades of white to get the "right white"... can tell if a picture is a millemetre off balance when nobody else can (the spirit rule is my best friend for proving me right so often!) Anyway, what I am trying to say is that I really think it's a great name without being too this, or too that. It's just a great name. and you can definitely get away with it and what's more you should. Smile

Rosebelle · 09/04/2013 13:48

PS I meant no to Patrick as a first name - it's a superfine middle name Smile

Chocoflump · 09/04/2013 14:00

LOVE it!!!

badtime · 09/04/2013 16:23

I think Montague Fox sounds better than Montgomery.

enjay0811 · 10/04/2013 00:02

Love it!!

ChasedByBees · 10/04/2013 00:14

Love love love it! I know a baby Monty too, great name.

LeoandBoosmum · 10/04/2013 01:14

I like it! But Add Rupert as a middle name...
Montgomery (Monty) Rupert Fox

K8Middleton · 10/04/2013 01:28

It's great but you must set him up with a detective agency: Monty Fox Investigates
