which flower name is your favourite? If you had a couple of daughters would you continue the theme?

We have a Rosie. Not planned to be a flower name, we didn't even think of that! And no dc2 won't have one if she is a girl. It he is a boy I can't think of any anyway!

MrsMcEnroe · 05/04/2013 20:17

My daughter is Lily and her cousins are Poppy and Daisy. I also love Iris, Violet and Ivy. And Fleur / Flora.

MrsMcEnroe · 05/04/2013 20:17

Oh and yes, if we had another daughter we would have continued the flower theme

DorisIsWaiting · 05/04/2013 20:18

Not too keen on themed names, I wanted my daughters to be indivuals rather than part of a set (I was always one of 'the girls' with my 2 dsis) It will still happen but hopefully be less iyswim.

Of the names you have I love Iris and Ivy. I feel Lily, Poppy, Daisy and Rosie as too cutsey lovely for little girls but not really a grown up name. Rose is also beautiful (dd3 middle name) Grin

MintyyAeroEgg · 05/04/2013 20:19

I think most of the commonly used flower names are a bit overdone nwadays but, having said that, I totally love Zinnia and Daphne and would have gone for one of those if ds had been a dd.

Frikadellen · 05/04/2013 20:21

I love Tansy as a girls name

tomatoplantproject · 05/04/2013 20:22

Love love love flower names but can't cos surname is Plant. I once met a Poppy Plant though. My favourite is Daisy. Wouldn't have a theme though - especially flowers which makes me think of Hyacinth Bucket. I also really like Fleur.

scottishmummy · 05/04/2013 20:22

Flower names are pretty, safe and overdone
Don't dislike as such just they're bit blah
Would I do flower theme no. If I were pushed for flow name I'd say lily

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 05/04/2013 20:27

I used Fleur as my dd's middle name and would love to use Dahlia if we have another girl. I love Posy, Violette and Primrose too.

scottishmummy · 05/04/2013 20:29

Ah yes fleur is pretty name

tigerdriverII · 05/04/2013 20:31

I have always thought that Snowdrop ( my favourite flower although I am almost sick of them this year) would be a lovely name for a winter baby but I have previously been told by MN that this is Not On.

tigerdriverII · 05/04/2013 22:32

Aaargh thread killer. Come on, people, someone must like Snowdrop!!!

birdofthenorth · 05/04/2013 23:38

Love Iris, Rose and Violet; like Ivy too but the rest are too cutesy for me. But no, I'm not hugely keen on matchy sibsets.

tigerdriverII · 05/04/2013 23:41

bird. I raise you Snowdrop....

BananaHammocks · 06/04/2013 08:47

tiger Snowdrop as a middle name only maybe? I felt bad that nobody was acknowledging you!

BananaHammocks · 06/04/2013 08:49

I actually quite like Blossom and Bluebell, but I probably wouldn't go there...... probably...

My daughters name is Heather and she loves it x

lottieandmia · 06/04/2013 13:12

From your list I like Iris.

TallyGrenshall · 06/04/2013 13:13

Iris Rose is good

CointreauVersial · 06/04/2013 13:17

Personally, I think the ones ending in -y are generally too twee and sweet for me. Poppy, Holly, Daisy......They blend into other similarly sickly names like Milly, Tilly, Molly, Maisy which are all over the place.

Butsome flower names definitely have character. Iris, for example. And Rose is such a classic.

MrsJohnDeere · 06/04/2013 13:31

I too like the ones that don't end in y/ie/ee.

Favourite is Iris. Love Fleur, Violet too.

StellaNova · 06/04/2013 13:37

My favourite is Rose, but I don't necessarily think of it as a flower name although obviously it is! If I had had a DD she would definately have been Rose. I was thinking of giving her Elizabeth as a middle name so her initials would have been R E D and calling her Rose Red! (probably just as well I only have sons...)

Not that keen on other flower names although I like Daisy - quite like Amaryllis, Jacinthe, Jasmine.

StitchAteMySleep · 06/04/2013 13:43

I love Iris and Violet.

DessieLou · 06/04/2013 19:51

I'm also not keen on the cutesy floral names but I do like iris, heather & hazel (not quite a flower, I know!). The only floral name on our list is Camellia, although I think it would get confused with Amelia. Smile
