which flower name is your favourite? If you had a couple of daughters would you continue the theme?

I like Jasmine, Rose & Iris too. FWIW I almost gave DD the welsh version of Snowdrop as a middle name. It's Eirlys ( Eye- r - liss). But in the end she was so overdue that all the poxy snowdrops had gone over! Couldn't persuade DH to have Primrose as a middle name, so all floral loveliness was lost. In terms of a floral sib set, perhaps I would continue the theme as middle names but probably not as first names. I would worry it might all be a bit too Flowers

We have DD1 Hazel and brand new DD2 Celeste. We did consider Iris bit felt it was too 'matchy' with Hazel.

DH was keen on a loose theme though, we are atheists and wanted something of the sea/sky/land/nature. Celeste means 'heavenly' and is also appropriate as DH is a pilot.

GillBates · 07/04/2013 05:04

Surely slightly ironic that you are atheists and have chosen a name that means "heavenly" though? Grin

I like Celeste though. Also Estella, which seems similar somehow. It does remind me of the girl in Great Expectations though.

I think that names like Poppy/Daisy are a bit overdone but like Ivy/Lily/Rosie/Rose/Hazel/Holly.

There is a financial reporter in the FT called Holly so I don't associate it as too cutsey.

I love Clover and Fern. Leafy, rather than flowery...

PoppyWearer · 07/04/2013 07:57

DC1 has Rose as middle name and a second DD would either have been Florence Daisy or Isabelle Poppy. We wanted to go with the floral theme.

DC2 was a boy, so that was that. Grin

I loved Clover but couldn't convince DH.

Kneedeepindaisies · 07/04/2013 08:06

I love Iris, Violet and Jasmine but have to agree that Lily, Poppy, Daisy are very over done where I live at least.

Most of these are hyphenated though, usually with May/Mae.

Littleturkish · 07/04/2013 08:09

I have an Ivy-Rose, if she has a sister one day, she'll be an Eden- which I think goes without being part of a theme.

Am I misremembering- wasn't snowdrop an evil pig in Orwell's animal farm?!

telsa · 07/04/2013 08:29

no do not like themeing, and find the flower names too cutesy. Of these, I like Violet most, as it is a strong colour and nice to roll around the tongue. Isabelle poppy is sweet.

My 8 week old dd is Violet. There was no other girls name for us Grin
