Damn it...we used our baby name on the dog!

We got a lovely soppy black lab 2 years ago and decided to call him Finn. Now that we are expecting our first baby we have realised that is our favourite name or Quinn (we cant do it can we??) for a girl as we dont know what we are having. We are now really struggling with alternatives. We have a very unusual surname with lots of i's and e's in it but dont want a traditional name. What do you think to the following options:

Neve (easy spelling as our surname is hard to spell)

Ava - love this but fear it is very popular
Isla - same as Ava

I was named after the family dog (still alive when I was born)

We did think about changing the dogs name slightly but he was here first so seems unfair!!

Do you think Quinn would be ok?? I have visions of standing in the park and calling the dog and the child coming and vice versa! Not such a bad thing but people might think we were bonkers....

My dcs and previous dog and current dog all have similar outdoing names. Never had any negative comments or had anyone notice, and its bloody useful when reading the riot act

My friend has had a cat and a son with the same name for over a decade now.

The difference I suppose us that the cat doesn't go to the park with them.

I call the cat by DD's name and DD by the cat's name anyway...[old gimmer emoticon].

I'd worry about it sounding like you were shouting 'quim' across the park.

Quinn is a fab name, especially for a boy but it also works for a girl- I knew one of each when I lived in Australia. Be careful with Neve though: in many places Niamh would be the easy/known spelling (and the nicer one IMO).

We gave the cats awesome names.. long story short we killed the cat. Problem solved. Now our kids have awesome names.

(Disclaimer: I might be joking)

No don't do it, have a rethink, I named my dog Bailey and a relative named his boy Bailey, it produced a few sniggers, I tell you!

We called our cat Mia. My aunt called her daughter Mia.. no one died. the end :o

Apart from being your dog's name, Finn is also very widely used for boys - it has risen rapidly up the charts and become quite trendy. I think it will sound dated once people start to tire of it. I know five Finns under age 10.

Love the names Quentin, Felix and Heath - much cooler, more interesting and less overused

My dog and dd have very similar names. The up side is that they both come running when you call out in the park!

Your child will live a long life and your dog probably won't. When you get a new dog you can call it something very different. Use the name on the kid!
