Damn it...we used our baby name on the dog!

We got a lovely soppy black lab 2 years ago and decided to call him Finn. Now that we are expecting our first baby we have realised that is our favourite name or Quinn (we cant do it can we??) for a girl as we dont know what we are having. We are now really struggling with alternatives. We have a very unusual surname with lots of i's and e's in it but dont want a traditional name. What do you think to the following options:

Girls
Molly
Mia
Neve (easy spelling as our surname is hard to spell)
Evie
Ava - love this but fear it is very popular
Isla - same as Ava
Darcy

Boys
Toby
Felix
Heath
Blake
Isaac - too common now?

Agree with frankatzen that the spelling Neve looks wrong - it should be Niamh. If I was more than the half Irish I am, it would irk me that so many traditional Irish names are being Anglicised. A child at our school is called Shianade. Enough said.

Well my inlaws named their dog after my name..... wasnt sure if i am honorued or horrified!! Seriously!
And they only got the dog and named it after i joined the family... WTF!

We also gave our dog my fav name, which is also Finn.

Quinn is lovely. Niamh is the correct spelling technically.

Finn is lovely - give it to you child and call the dog Quinn or Bim or similar and he probably won't even notice. Otherwise Isaac or Heath - not Blake, (fake/flake etc). Obvs. needs to go with surname hoping it's not Hayes.

Our second son is named the same as my husband's first dog. He had grudgingly admitted that the boy is in fact better than the dog.

Ds3 is named after a dog !!!!

Ava, Mia or Darcy for a girl, Felix or Isaac for a boy.

Isaac is a classic name, rather than faddy.

I think we've used ours on a rabbit DH loved it and I wasn't keen so we used it for the rabbit (who is now dead) and now I'm really starting to like it! No sign of babies yet but still a thinker...glad to see some people think it's ok to name after pets

My mother did this to me twice, with two different children! We have laughed our butts off about it for years. Ooh well. The laughs were better than the name, and your post made me laugh our loud.

You have my sympathy, I had to stop OH calling one of our hamsters one of our boy shortlist names, and I'm ever-so-slightly mulling over the fact that the alternative - Faraday - would be on the longlist if we hadn't named DH4 it first.

But we have very unusual tastes...

I'd say go with Finn. Makes a nice story for when they're older, too.

Why don't you name your baby Finley and then shorten it to Finn?
Or try Flynn?
