What are people's thoughts on these two? Middle name rose (family name) as a little sister for Reid?

I really like Martha, I also like Lucy but find it a little blah!

Jojobump1986 · 14/03/2013 22:16

Martha's lovely. Not wildly keen on Lucy though.

LynetteScavo · 14/03/2013 22:16

Martha is gorgeous! One of my favorite girls names. Lucy is very run of the mill...three were three in DS1's class, one Lucy up the road, one down the road...it's a nice name, but there are far too many of them.

ThePieSmuggler · 14/03/2013 22:17

I love Martha, Lucy is a very dull boring name to me

domesticslattern · 14/03/2013 22:20

May I be the first to say I love Lucy.

Bluelightsandsirens · 14/03/2013 22:22

I don't agree that Lucy is a dull and boring name it brings to mind fun loving and cheerful.

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/03/2013 22:24

who dares say that lucy is a dull name!!!!! I have to say, i like Martha too - if i was to be pairing it with rose i would choose martha

treaclesoda · 14/03/2013 22:26

I love Martha. Wanted to call DD that but DH was horrified, thought it too old fashioned. Where he sees old fashioned, I see timeless.

Lucy is nice too, although I'd guess a lot more common.

ThisIsMummyPig · 14/03/2013 22:26

I have a Lucy, and was suprised by how very common it was. I wanted to call her Elenor, but DH vetoed it. Rose is my other daughter's middle name, also a family name.

steppemum · 14/03/2013 22:29

I like both. I have a Lucy, but it is short for a longer name. I found it a bit lacking in imagination on its own, nice for a little girl, bit boring for an adult, so my Lucy has a lovely longer name she can choose to use later (and I use now)

Lots of Lucys around too

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/03/2013 23:23

I really like both. Martha is becoming pretty popular here along with Marnie. Don't know any Lucys.

smother · 16/03/2013 08:20

Oooh, both are gorgeous! Martha is more interesting. I'd vote for Martha if pushed. I also like Alice which has similar feel to Lucy? What would you prefer to be called? good luck x

flopsy1974 · 16/03/2013 15:06

Martha is the best name out there Smile

ZZZenAgain · 16/03/2013 15:08

Unfortunately I know a really unpleasant little Martha so that has ruined the name for me.

mum2jakie · 16/03/2013 15:10

I love Martha. I went to college with a Martha years ago and have always liked it. Old fashioned but not twee.

purpleroses · 16/03/2013 15:14

Lucy seems like a name of our own generation to me - wouldn't give it to a child. Martha's lovely though.

CruCru · 16/03/2013 15:19

Both are very nice.

Still18atheart · 16/03/2013 15:34

I love Lucy always have

I've always thought of Martha as pretty old fashioned but have noticed it's coming back in vogue again

jumpinghoops · 16/03/2013 16:32

I have a Martha Rose Grin so obviously have a preference. Lucy was also in my top three and I think it's a lovely name. I have come across one other little Martha but no other little Lucy's so far of a similar age (3). Personally I think Rose goes slightly better with Martha than Lucy as a middle name.

jumpinghoops · 16/03/2013 16:35

Just going to throw in Nancy as a possibility- I think Nancy Rose is a great name.

caughtinagiggleloop · 16/03/2013 16:53

There was a Lucy in my class at primary school in the 1980s. She was the only Lucy I knew right the way through primary and high school. She was born in the 70s and I think it was considered an old lady's name then so not very common. Even now, I imagine the number of people called Lucy that I've met over the age of 25 is in single figures. Nowadays, though there are loads of children with this name. I think it was in the top ten of baby names for about 10 years from the late 1990s onwards. I think it's a lovely name though.

Martha is a much more unusual name and I always thought of it as quite old fashioned. I met one baby at a baby group last year with this name and quite a few people commented on how unusual it is.

Rose is a lovely name too. That's the middle name we chose for DD. It's really common nowadays but if you love it, it doesn't matter.

FrazzleRock · 16/03/2013 16:56

There are two Martha's in DS2's nursery class.

I've got no problem with popular names but you might so I thought I'd mention it Smile

ReluctantBeing · 16/03/2013 17:02

Martha is my middle name and I hate it. It's frumpy and old.
Lucy is nice. I've never met a nasty Lucy.

Yama · 16/03/2013 17:05

I (much) prefer Lucy to Martha but I think Rose is nicer with Martha.

toobreathless · 16/03/2013 17:09

Both lovely, I think Lucy has the edge to go with Reid.

Aware that it about zero help!

I don't actually know any children with either name.
