What are people's thoughts on these two? Middle name rose (family name) as a little sister for Reid?

Martha is one of my favourite names :)
I know several girls called Lucy aged between 6 months and 22 years!

Minty82 · 16/03/2013 18:01

Martha's one of my favourite names - it was our runner-up name for DD. I think Lucy's lovely too but Martha definitely beats it for me. I know two baby Lucys (including a Lucy Rose; very pretty combination) and one baby Martha.

I love the name Martha but would it bother you if it suddenly became very popular?? I've seen two baby Martha's in the last week (I work in a hospital so great place to see trends arising, although it could just be a regional thing. If popularity doesn't bother you..... Go for it, it's beautiful.

Martha ia incredibly popular and overdone around our way, Lucy is better but again there's usually at least one in every class in our school.

raisah · 17/03/2013 03:55

Martha & Lucia instead of Lucy, both quite popular in my area.

Sheilathegreat · 17/03/2013 07:28

Both beautiful names. I think Lucy is the more timeless. Martha is quite on trend at the moment .

lollystix · 17/03/2013 08:39

Lucy is boring to me. Martha is great - name with depth I think.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 17/03/2013 08:43

I only know one Lucy under 10 but there are growing numbers of Martha.

i much much prefer Lucy.

lovely meaning too - light

Christelle2207 · 17/03/2013 14:25

Love both but martha gets a slightly more original tick, yet ATM is probably a bit more popular than Lucy?

MrsMoppetMama · 17/03/2013 14:33

Martha is a great name, I fully intend to use it myself next time around (assuming I have a girl)!

sweetiepie1979 · 17/03/2013 14:42

Martha is lovely Lucy is bland

MoonHare · 17/03/2013 15:38

I think they're very different styles of name. I like both but like Martha best.

If popularity concerns you then I would add that I know 4 little Martha's and not a single Lucy, in fact there's not even one in DC1s school.

kelou75 · 17/03/2013 17:06

I love both names, Martha just pipped Lucy if im pushed. My only gripe would be that with Martha appears to be increasing in popularity but maybe thats because its a beautiful name I guess and I prefer Lucille to Lucia if I was thinking of an alternative.

sunnyday123 · 18/03/2013 12:53

I have a Martha and love it! Everyone comments on how nice it is :)

Popularity depends on area I suppose, I'm really only interested in kids around the same age as mine and I don't know any and not one in her school (500+ kids).

delilah88 · 20/03/2013 20:12

both LOVELY! Think Lucy slightly has the edge for me.

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 20/03/2013 20:30

Lucy is classic, has always been well known but has never been number 1 in the charts as its never been overly 'fashionable' which is why I like it. Also its no-nonsense, its easy to spell and pronounce and has a lovely meaning. Martha is lovely and I love biblical names, but my issue with Martha is that there will always be someone who will pronounce it mar-fa and that would spoil it for me.

purples · 20/03/2013 20:48

Love the name Martha, its my oldest daughters middle name,
At her primary school she is the only Martha that I know of with it (as a first or middle name), but there are several Lucys.

Saying that I do like the name Lucy ( I nearly called my cat Lucy!)....
