Names you wish you could have used?

I've got 3 dc. Katherine (she goes by kathy or kath), Aidan and Rachel.

I love their names!

But I'd have liked to use Morna, Muirrean, Skye, Eilidh and Iona for girls.

Merthin, Thomas, Harris, Brendan, Jurgen (its my dh name, I love it but he said no) for boys.

What's your "impossible" name?

I love Coralie but a relative's daughter is called that and it's too close for us to be able to use it Sad

Kyrptonite · 13/03/2013 09:59

Loki. Because then DC3 could've been Thor.

curiousgeorgie · 13/03/2013 10:05

I loved Harper but couldn't name my child after Victoria Beckhams (even though I actually quite like her!)

I liked it for years, then opened the paper one day and... Damn!

NandH · 13/03/2013 10:11

I really wanted a Noah...but dp kept saying "wheres the ark" throughout my pregnancy which eventually put me right off it!

weegiemum · 13/03/2013 10:17

NandH my dd put me off Noah by asking "that boy gotta big boat?"

Juliet - doesn't go with surname Sad and had DSs Grin Wink

NandH · 13/03/2013 10:27

Weegiemum - Haha brilliant! I still love the name but can't think about it now without singing (in my head!) "the animals come in two by two hurrah Hurrah"

Itsalwaysraining · 13/03/2013 10:27

I have no children yet but I plan to call my boy Wolfgang (and I'm not even German).

weegiemum · 13/03/2013 10:32

itsalwaysraining don't give your dc a German name unless you'll be right behind them always! My dh is Hans-Jurgen (his dad is German, he's Heinz-Gunther) and he hates it. We have a German surname unique in the uk. Dh can manage Jurgen as his surname matches. BIL has an Irish name - he hates them both, neither match!

I always wanted Rex but we gave it to the cat (didnt want to tempt fate by saving it). No boy babies as of yet but I couldnt have a cat and a baby with tge same name.

Itsalwaysraining · 13/03/2013 10:35

Weegie, it's all rather a moot point as I'm 41 and ttc my first Sad

SkylarWhite · 13/03/2013 10:45

Ooh I LOVE Muirrean, too, and other complicated Gaelic names - Lasairfhiona (Lazarina) and Saoirse spring to mind.

DH laughed in my face.

MolotovCocktail · 13/03/2013 11:43

Despite having 2 DDs already, Mia has not been used (yet, anyway!) DH vetoed it for DD1 and DD2 didn't (and still doesn't) 'look like' a Mia. Lily is another name I've always liked, but haven't used (again, yet).

Love Pearl and Penelope, but both clash with our surname.

MolotovCocktail · 13/03/2013 11:45

(I think I regret not being firmer and naming DD1 Mia, actually. I was much too democratic).

Skygirls · 13/03/2013 11:51

I really wanted Indigo for a girl ( and no I'm not a hippie)Grin
But as DH and I were brainstorming names, Ds1 picked up on a name we said. He really liked it and 'bump' as dd was then, could not be anything else, as far as DS1 is concerned.

So if she doesn't like it when she's older, we can point the finger at ds1 Grin

poppydaisy · 13/03/2013 11:59

Isn't it Jürgen?

breatheslowly · 13/03/2013 12:12

Peter - it didn't go with our surname and we had a girl anyway.

ellesabe · 13/03/2013 15:17

I wanted a Solomon but it rhymes with our surname

BeehavingBaby · 13/03/2013 17:26

Elodie, Gretel, Robyn, Myrtle
Jethro, Joel, Jupiter

sjupes · 13/03/2013 17:34

Mason, owen, daniel - i might manage daniel if this ones a boy seeing ad it's our last baby - but owen with our surname id s no-no and mason rhymes :(

i like natalie for a girl but it's quite tarty - loads of women around my age seem to be called it and they're naaaasty - i also like erin but it's boring.

MsAkimbo · 13/03/2013 20:48

I will forever mourn the fact that I could never use Chloe. We know far too many pets named Chloe. It's such a cute, happy name.

For boys, Elliot. Love it but DH talks like E.T. whenever I suggest...

OliviaMumsnet · 13/03/2013 20:52

MsAkimbo that is my DS2's name Grin
NO one has mentioned ET once in 2 years plus

Startail · 13/03/2013 20:56

Rebecca, sadly an Ex of DHs

andadietcoke · 13/03/2013 20:58

Charlie. I absolutely love it, but my surname is Brown.

tobytoes · 13/03/2013 21:05

I wanted Pixie for a girl but the family said it was cruel :-(
