Names you wish you could have used?

I've got 3 dc. Katherine (she goes by kathy or kath), Aidan and Rachel.

I love their names!

But I'd have liked to use Morna, Muirrean, Skye, Eilidh and Iona for girls.

Merthin, Thomas, Harris, Brendan, Jurgen (its my dh name, I love it but he said no) for boys.

What's your "impossible" name?

Francis/Frances, and Noah for a boy. DH hates both. And I wanted them all to have my surname as a second middle name but he thought that was ridiculous and after a 42 hour labour for my first I didn't have the energy to argue, one might say he should have let me have my way at that point!

I LOVE it Olivia! My DH was sadly traumatized by the film. Every little Elliot I've known has been adorable. Smile

TheBuskersDog · 13/03/2013 21:14

Holly, surname Wood.

Shodan · 13/03/2013 21:26

Sophie, Charlotte, Melissa- no good for dss! Also Chloe, but ditto for that reason and also we had a cat called Cleo, so doubly no good.

I badly wanted Xavier for ds2 but DH wouldn't hear of it. We bandied names around for ages for ds2 before finally settling, only for DH to come home from work and tell me that some woman in his office had sneered at it. (why he felt the need to tell me I don't know). By that time I was sick of being pregnant, sick of choosing names only to have someone to point out its faults and I really, really wanted to waddle into his workplace and lamp her one.

(I didn't, obvs)

I love the name Benjamin but my cousin used it before I could. Also love Thomas but DP has a cousin with that name.
DS was eventually called Brandon Sean

Helena: unfortunately MIL, SIL, DNiece and two close friends all have variations of Helen in their names so that was a bit of a non-starter.

Saoirse was out of the window when DH refused to give our child a name he couldn't spell

Was really sold on Alba until the Time Traveller's Wife came out - I couldn't face a lifetime of "no, I called her after the House of the Spirits actually.."

Lots of boys names are out because of our surname. Robert being the prime one.

2beornot · 14/03/2013 18:31

Me and DH both love Willow. But with our surname, I think it would be just mean!!!

hurricanewyn · 14/03/2013 18:37

Lucy for DD - lovely name, but horrible relatives name so I couldn't use it...

eatyourveg · 14/03/2013 18:47

Rufus Jethro and Noah - all got poo pooed.

thezebrawearspurple · 14/03/2013 18:47

I loved Juno, the movie ruined it for me. Lila, dh said it was a stripper name. Isabella was always one of my favourite names but it is so over popular now. Found a great name eventually!

frutilla · 14/03/2013 19:30

Was going to call baby Willow, turned out to be DS anyway. Now with Willow Smith and Pink's Willow, it's too popular.

BoyMeetsWorld · 14/03/2013 19:37

Aww there's a few!

Aurora - past connotations, but love it nn Rory for a girl.

Anything with Lou as a poss nn (DH's ex) which rules out Louie for a boy, Luciana for a girl. Love both.

Marius - I adore it, DH does not. Same for Odette which is one of my all time favourites.

sigh

gwenniebee · 14/03/2013 19:37

I loved Beatrix but my cousin got there first. My dd's name is unusual but not one that makes people go "eh?" which I really like. But since she was born I have heard of two other babies (not really people I know!) to have that name which makes me Hmm as clearly my dd should be the only one!!

For boys I like Alexander and Montgomery... we may get to use them yet :)

Nicknamegrief · 14/03/2013 19:40

Thomasina.

I love it but husband vetoed it.

Will never be able to persuade him as we've used Thomas as a middle name for one of our boys.

Dafydd was always my boys name and DH eventually agreed, when bump arrived it was a DS so I was super happy I had my Dafydd, then half an hour later my DH got a text from his BIL saying 'Congrats but please don't call him Dafydd'. Name was ruined :( still gutted even though DS really suits his name and I so love it.

lovechocolates · 15/03/2013 13:31

Jacob - but too close to Jake, which is in our family :(
