My wife and I both dont love that many boys names at all, and almost none of the names the others liked. So after a lot of ignoring the issue, then getting depressed about it and then finally starting negotiations more laboured than ones to resolve the Israeli Palestinian issues we came up with a final list of names that we both could just about live with, if not entirely love.

Max - me
Bruce - me
Jonny - wife
Alex - wife
Jason - wife
Luke - both, but very "lukewarm" no pun intended

In the end I think we are probably going to go with Bruce.

Just curious on peoples opinions on that.

Also curious as to what people think about what happens when one parent gets "their" name choice, in this case mine? We already have a Mia, which was my wifes choice, but I liked it a lot too.

Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks... ta

Think Luke is the best in the list.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 11/03/2013 20:54

Bruce? really. It's kind of cool in an ironic sort of a way ..

Along those lines, what about

Ray

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 11/03/2013 20:55

What about:

Marcus
Patrick
Michael

Meh

frazzledbutcalm · 11/03/2013 20:57

We have a Luke. My 'choice' ... but we didn't call him that until everyone agreed. Dh and ds1 didn't like the name, dd1 & dd2 did. When dh brought 3dc into the hospital they cooed over baby, I asked if we could call him Luke ... dh and ds said yes without hesitation. Over time, everyone got to like the name, as you then fall in love with the baby, character, name all at the same time. So baby becomes not a name, but a person iyswim. Mind dd's keep 'taunting'... do you remember when you didn't like Luke's name? ... That's not very nice but we get over it.

almapudden · 11/03/2013 21:02

I love the name Bruce! Great choice!

FriggFRIGGisPoorlySick · 11/03/2013 21:05

Bruce?
Umm...No.

Luke,Alex or Max are nicer,IMHO.

TheBookofRuth · 11/03/2013 21:09

Your wife's choices are awful, IMO. I would go with Max.

rhondajean · 11/03/2013 21:12

I'm not keen on any of them...which is why it's a good job it's not my baby!

I only know one Bruce, an older cousin of mines, so I suppose it's reasonably unusual without being weird.

cookielove · 11/03/2013 21:14

I love the name Bruce Smile i have to say it in an Australian accent though Smile

I love the name Ralph to Grin

LaVitaBellissima · 11/03/2013 21:17

Grin Cookie

I'd go for Alex but Max would be my second choice!

Luckily for names, we had twins o my partner and I chose the first name for one and the middle name for the other! Smile

ClaraBean · 11/03/2013 21:35

I like Bruce or Johnny (but would use John and Johnny as a nn)
Not at all keen on the others.
How about Bruno? Has a little bit of Bruce and a bit of Johnny (sort of :) )

Shr0edinger · 11/03/2013 21:37

I love Bruce!

BeeBopDingALing · 11/03/2013 21:39

Max - Ok, very popular at the moment if that might bother you.
Bruce - Just no.
Jonny - Ok as a nn but would have Johnathan on bc.
Alex - Really nice name. Good for baby/child/adult. Definitely my favourite of them all.
Jason - No, very dated imo late 70's/early 80's and not in a good way.
Luke - Nice name.

GirlOutNumbered · 11/03/2013 22:11

I teach a Bruce. I feel sorry for him every time I read his name, almost as much as the Chester and Walter that I teach.

Jojobump1986 · 11/03/2013 22:19

DH & I couldn't agree on a name for DS1. We whittled it down to a shortlist that we could both live with. In the end I just couldn't make a decision & we felt pressured to pick something. DH picked a name off the shortlist that he liked. Personally I think it's a bit 'meh' & I could list at least half a dozen boys in my year group at school who had the same name. It's DS's name now though & I don't hate it. I mostly call him by various sickly sweet nicknames or a shortening of his name.

I'm currently pregnant with DS2 & we've agreed that I'll name him, however long that takes, although DH does reserve the right to veto anything he really doesn't like! We're pretty sure we've settled on a name already, although I don't trust my own decisions at the best of times and we had a relative assume we were joking when they were told the potential name! I think just the fact that I wasn't instantly put off the name, despite having some opposition, suggests we might be on to a winner! Smile

I just think it's important that the child gets a name that neither parent dislikes, even if one is more fond of it than the other. At the end of the day, a child will be who they will be, regardless of the name they're given. Unless it's a truly awful name that gets them bullied on a regular basis!

NowPlayingZone · 12/03/2013 10:45

Love Bruce-& I know one who is too cool or school!
Like Max, but prefer Lucas to Luke. Not keen on the rest.

WormCanner · 12/03/2013 23:00

Bruce Springsteen. Say no more! Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/03/2013 23:03

No don't do it , or Jason

specialknickers · 12/03/2013 23:18

Bruce is okay. If you like it, go for it, it's a perfectly respectable name.

FWIW we have a Luke, despite the name not being first choice for either of us. It was the oh-that's-okay-name that we sort of had on the reserve list. When he was born that was the one that stuck and 3 years on we can't imagine a better name really. It's surprisingly popular with grown ups (several friends with more fashionably named children said they'd wished they'd thought of it first) but not one of those names that is commonly used enough to find more than one at nursery. Plus when kids get into Star Wars they always want to be Luke, it's brilliantly timeless!

OkayHazel · 13/03/2013 02:32

Do Bruce and Mia go as a sibling pair?

Lutrine · 13/03/2013 07:47

I like Max and Alex most from your list, not too keen on Bruce I'm afraid.

HenriettaChicken · 13/03/2013 07:52

Elvis!
