Very early on we serm to have picked our his or her names - gut reactions please!

Like I said, remarkably early (for DH and I!) we seem to have found a girl's and boy's name we both like!

Neither are names I had particularly considered before... I really like them but have (totally over thinking pregnant brain) uncertainties about people's reactions. I don't mind - as I say, I like them - but am intrigued!

We have a Matilda and call her Tilda.

Names are Emma or Hugo.

Is Emma too early 1990s? Will she have an older person's name.... Like meeting a 20/30 year old now called Susan or something would be odd? Or is it classic, as in Emma Hamilton or Jane Austin's Emma?

With Hugo... Are we mad to love it? We do!

I think Emma is a classic name that never ages. I've known Emma's of all ages and decades.

And I love Hugo, think it goes really well with Matilda, if that's important to you.

Both perfect with Matilda. Word of warning though, keep them to yourselves IRL, people will alway critique before a child is born.

I know a baby Emma. Both names are great!

I love Emma, it's such a pretty name, but I've never met an adult Emma who isn't unhinged.

All the Hugos I know are very cool, creative and successful.

Like Hugo, not so keen on Emma, it is classic and a lovely name - but doesn't feel as sparky as Tilda and Hugo.

One of my closest friends is called Susan... and she is in her early 30s. There was a Susan in my class at school too, so it can't be that odd to be called Susan and be in your 30s!

Emma is a very boring name to me, there were so bloody many of us when I was at school - but it's probably less common now. I can't have an objective opinion about it given that I am an Emma.

I like Hugo very much, it was on our list if DD2 had been a boy.

As others have said, avoid telling people your choices in real life as some bugger somewhere will piss on your parade with a negative reaction and you'll be back to square one before you know it.

Emma is a classic and so won't date.
Hugo goes well with Tilda but it is very popular now and won't necessarily remain popular.

Nice names. Emma was v. v. v. popular at one stage but I think has been out of fashion for a while - you certainly don't hear of many little girls called Emma these days so your dd will stand out amongst the Ellies and Emilies. (I need to go to pedants' corner and check the plural of Emily!)

I love Hugo. Emma feels dull and dated to me.

Hugo is great. Haven't heard of an Emma (who wasn't in their 30's) for ages, perfectly nice name though.

Love them both. I know a 2 year old Emma and I've never thought of it as an older person's name.
