Hi ladies, for the past 4 years or so the name Noah has been up there as my top name choice, but now I am increasingly concerned that it's either ridiculously popular or even a bit 'common'.:( I am 28 and waiting a year ttc, know no children so am out of touch with it really. ..

How many do you know in your area of the country, how old are they and what are your thoughts on the name? ? Xxxx thankyou

I quite like Noah. My daughter has a noah in her class. Unfortunately, he is nicknamed nitty noah...

lollydollydrop · 25/02/2013 23:38

Lol!!! Oh dear!! I guess if he got nits at some point thats a likely nickname! I don't mind that so much, think kids grow out of that :)

Hope it's not a girl then Grin

weegiemum · 25/02/2013 23:48

I'm not keen - because of my dd2.

When she was 2 we were in a soft play and a mother next to us was shouting "Nooooooah! Nooooooooooooooah!"

Dd2 turned to me and said "That boy gotta big boat"

when I said no he probably didn't, she then said

"well he gotta lotta aminals then" and went off to lay

Me and friend were in stitches! Moans mum, not so much.

And that is why (apart from prem menopause and vasectomy) we wont be having any other kids!

Ha! Thats funny. Part of me finds it shocking that they still teach that stuff in school tbh, but doesn't put me off. I'm not massively religious myself, dont think you need to be to use the name x

I know of 3 born in the past year. It's becoming a common name.

lollydollydrop · 25/02/2013 23:54

If /when we have a DD she will be Phoebe ♥

Do we mean common popular or common 'chavvy'? :(

I don't like it at all. I remember someone on here saying it sounded like a fart in a drainpipe.

Jacob is nice, though, and he can also be Jake. Poor old Noah doesn't really have any variants. And isn't there a really embarrassing bit in the Bible where he gets drunk and takes all his clothes off, or something.

Sariska · 25/02/2013 23:59

It's pretty high up in the ONS top 50 boys' names' list. And still on an upward rise. It was just outside the top 50 when I named my DS Noah....and then Chris Evans gave his DS the name and it seemed to get a whole lot more popular. To be fair, the two events are probably not actually connected though!

It's also very popular in the US (top 5, I think) and Germany. Definitely an "of the moment" name although I still love it. Don't know any others although I've heard the name used a fair bit in the park and toddler groups etc. Oh and, FWIW, it's very middle class where I live.

chocosaurus · 26/02/2013 07:55

I like it... But It is DS1s middle name.

I would say you have to live with the name and choose something you really like and don't be overly influenced by current trends.

BinarySolo · 26/02/2013 08:14

I know one. He's nearly three and has a twin sister called Eloise. I like both names. I've only come across one, but know from charts it's reasonably popular

12ylnon · 26/02/2013 16:30

I have a Noah- so i think it's lovely! He's nearly 7. It wasn't particularly popular when we named him and oddly, we've only met two other Noah's in 7 years. We're in the south east too, which according to MN, is full of Noah's!

Noah doesn't have a nickname at school. At home we call him Noah (mainly), Noey, Noo, or Horace!

Beatrixpotty · 26/02/2013 18:29

It's popular but none of the Noahs I have met are chavvy.

Minty82 · 26/02/2013 20:01

I think it's a great name. I only know of one, age 2.

NightLark · 26/02/2013 20:09

Two in my sons class (age 7)

scottishmummy · 26/02/2013 20:10

V popular with baby wearers, I know a few noahs

Viviennemary · 26/02/2013 20:17

I'm not very keen on the name. It just seems to have had a surge of popularity and will probably date. That's only my opinion of course.

BrainDeadMama · 26/02/2013 20:21

Very nice, and very popular!

Noahsmother · 26/02/2013 20:22

I have a Noah. He is almost 15.

There were no, NO, I tell you, Noahs when we named him.

I feel quite peeved that the name has become so popular.

But apart from everyone nicking my name, I still love it.
