Hi ladies, for the past 4 years or so the name Noah has been up there as my top name choice, but now I am increasingly concerned that it's either ridiculously popular or even a bit 'common'.:( I am 28 and waiting a year ttc, know no children so am out of touch with it really. ..

How many do you know in your area of the country, how old are they and what are your thoughts on the name? ? Xxxx thankyou

One in year 5, one in year 2, two at rugby, Plus two in our NCT area meet ups seven years ago (one was half German - it's one of the few names that is the same in German and English, apparently). We're in London.

So a few around, and seems to be getting more popular, but a very long way of Harry, Jack, Thomas, William type names.

Not a name that can be shortened (maybe a good or a bad thing!). And an almost dead cert that you would get lots of presents and cards with arks, animals etc on for a baby Noah.

We have a DS with Noah as a middle name. He's 5. We loved it and were prepared for it to be his first name... Then dh's secretary's grandson was born and he's a Noah. And that same weekend we saw the free newspapers advert for births and there were several Noah's. so we moved his name to the middle!!

Ds2's best friend is Noah. (They're 3). He's a lovely boy. One of my mum's neighbour's son's is a Noah. He must be 15 or 16 now.

Maybe Noahsmother is my mother's neighbour...

I know a Noah who is 8yrs and he was the only one I knew for ages but I now know another four Noahs, all of whom are under 6 months! One is the DS of a friend and the other all go to the same baby group as I take DS too. There must be 8 or 9 boys there, three of whom are Noah. I know its mean of me, but I did smirk to myself when the mothers of the second & third Noahs joined the group & said so proudly "and this is Noah" in a "haven't I come up with an original name" sort of way and then try to hide their disappointment as other mums went "oh, mine's Noah as well".

Personally think its really 'geeky' but its all personal choice!

Sorry Noah parents Blush

I like the name a lot but I do know 4 Noahs (ages 6, 4, 3 and about 5 weeks) and plenty of Noah middle names too, so yes it's definitely shot up the popularity lists. But that's because it's a lovely name. I'd never say it's chavvy...just popular.

I did actually consider it for my DC2 for a while when I was pregnant (and unaware I was having a girl!) but my DS put me off it with his whiney, grumpy way of saying no. Always came out as "Noooooooo-waah" so after that whenever I heard the name Noah I always heard it in my DS's grumpy tone!

I don't know any personally but it's a name I've heard regularly at playgrounds/baby groups etc. It screams born again Christian parents to me. With a dash of over-ernest lentil weaving.
