Baby names

Names you secretly like but could never burden a child with?

Was talking baby names with my husband yesterday and he admitted to wanting to name a son Aubrey. When I stopped laughing he agreed that it might lead to a little bit of bullying. But then I love
Evelyn (for a boy!) which is equally bad...

Have you or your DP got a secret soft spot for a name that might not go down so well in the playground?

Aryton. Love this name but it is met with a turned up nose from everyone.
For a girl I love Stevie but that is also met with a funny face.

thislittleP BIL is called Sofiane, pronounced Soufyan. I always liked it but does sound like a girls' name in the UK.

I really, really wanted to call my future DS Aragorn. Luckily, I only have DDs. So far. Grin

Rainbow was always my "the world just isn't ready for my brilliance" name.

Then I told dh, and he said if we had a girl he would be happy to call her Rainbow Shock

then we had a boy.

If DS had been a girl I really really loved Esme, but DH insisted everyone would think of the Hunchback of Notre Dame shouting "Esmerelda!" Hmm

I shall revive the campaign if we have another.... :)

Raven. For a boy.

Ash, but that isn't really unusual for a boy exactly.

Thor. Love the name. And I'm Scandinavian, so could pull it off for a son....

Evangeline. But a bit too princessy for a real child iyswim.

Falco, or Peregrine. I think they're handsome boy names, but wouldn't use them.

Oh, I love the name Ludvig!!!

And Amadeus and Howard and Arnold.

I did give DD a, um, name lots of people don't like as her third name DH and I both like it, but didn't dare use it as a first name. Sadly DD doesn't like it.

My dp practically wet himself when I suggested Aubrey! My list of names I love but couldn't bring myself to use includes...
Atticus
erroll
fifer (actually I would use this if dp let me!)

I'm sure there's loads more I've banished to the back of my mind....

Gabriel. Beautiful, beautiful name. However, you can imagine the teasing at school.

Also, Lilith for a girl. Sounds lovely, but very unpleasant Biblical connotations!

I like lots of long and flowery boy's names:

Cornelius
Ludovic
Emmanuel
Gabriel
Florian

Perhaps just as well we had girls Grin

I like Christabel and Tatiana for girls, but couldn't quite bring myself to raise them for serious consideration - I realised if I was embarrassed even suggesting them to DH, it probably wasn't the best choice!

Tiddlyompom, I know someone who has just had a baby Esme and I think it's lovely!

I like a lot of the names already mentioned.

I love
Aurora - people just seem to think Disney princess
and
Delilah - that ghastly song.
People have always done Hmm faces when I've said that I like them so I've steered clear. DH didn't like them anyway!
