Biblical boys names

So, DS2 is due in June & it seems to be the thing to do to decide on a name in advance now. The middle name will be John & the surname isn't a vowel so I don't think initials are going to be problematic. Here's a list of the names that we like that haven't already been stolen by friends/family which is most of our favourites, opinions appreciated!

Amos (Pronounciation - AY-mus/a-MOS?!)
Andrew (DH's uncle but I we might get away with it if he was know by a nn!)
Asher
Ezekiel
Ishmael
Levi (Current favourite but has received some negativity from others)
Matthew
Michael (Don't like Mike/Mickey)
Moses (Too patriarchal/old man-ish!?)
Peter (Also one of DH's uncles but seen v infrequently & different surname)

DH made the final choice on DS1's name because I seemed incapable of agreeing on anything shortly after he was born. I don't love his name but I'm mostly over that now! We've agreed that I'll get final say on DS2's name to even-out the decision making but I'm useless at choosing! Someone decide for me! Wink

I love Amos!!!! Also Peter, v underused.

I would pronounce Amos as A Moss.

hatchypom · 25/01/2013 18:07

Elijah
Isaac
Abraham
Joseph

PenelopePisstop · 25/01/2013 18:10

I love Amos too.

My DC's have bible names, can't go wrong with a bible name IMO.

I like Saul And Josiah (like Joss as the abv.)

hatchypom Elijah & Isaac are both claimed by children of close friends of ours that DS1 plays with. Abraham has been vetoed by DH as being too 'old-man' & there's already a J-name in the family & we're trying to keep different initials! I'd choose Jesse if we could use Js! Smile

We're ridiculously awkward! I suppose it's our own fault for insisting on Biblical names & attending a church that's in the middle of a baby-boom. There were 13 babies born in the last academic year (including DS1) & another 6 that I know of so far in the same year as DS2! Average attendance at the church is about 150-200 people from all generations. I don't know where all these babies are springing from! Confused

Oooh jojo do tell what they've all been called !

missalien · 25/01/2013 18:39

Simeon :-)

QuietNinjaTardis · 25/01/2013 18:43

Asher, Levi and Michael are my favourites.

KateF · 25/01/2013 18:46

I like Moses. I know one, with brothers Josiah and Obadiah. Would Micah be less likely to be shortened than Michael?
I also know a Zedediah-how about that (it's shortened to Zed)?

CheerfulYank · 25/01/2013 18:48

I second lockets... I adore Ezra and know a lovely little one. Also Asa. But then I'm American so I think Asa might be pronounced a bit differently here?

From your list I like Asher, Peter, Levi, and Matthew. Amos too, which to me rhymes with Seamus.

Jojobump1986 · 25/01/2013 18:54

This will totally out me to anyone associated with our church but... Elijah, Daniel, Jessica, Leonora, Dylan, Joshua, James, Zephaniah, Zachary, Micah, Toby, Ruby & Joshua! Having a girl would be so much easier! I'm v impressed that we managed to get through all those boys with only 1 name doubled! Other little boys of a similar age are: Caleb, Noah, Isaac, Joshua, Jasper & Samuel.

(Yes, it has taken me pretty much all this time to remember all those names! Blush)

I like Matthew or Andrew.

Has Mark gone?

Jojobump1986 · 25/01/2013 19:00

Mark is DS1's middle name!

pity you've ruled out J names as I like Jonah.

amck5700 · 25/01/2013 19:05

Saul maybe

DessieLou · 25/01/2013 19:10

Reuben? It's my favourite boys name but we had a dd so its on hold!

Jojobump1986 · 25/01/2013 19:17

Oh yes, there's a Reuben too! Can't believe I forgot him! Blush

TodaysAGoodDay · 25/01/2013 19:26

Matthew is a wonderful name, but then I'm biased (DS is Matthew).

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/01/2013 19:37

Simon
Benjamin
Daniel
Adam
Ethan
Gabriel
Luke
Nathan
Paul
Philip

All lovely names

Narked · 25/01/2013 20:00

I like Asher. I was really keen on Simeon for a while and then noticed it sounds like simian. Which woukd be particularly bad if you're creationists Grin

Arithmeticulous · 25/01/2013 20:03

Peter, David, Joseph... I like Amos too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/01/2013 20:45

LOVE Asher and Simeon.
Like Ishmael and Andrew.
Moses and Ezekiel are dreadful imho and Amos too. Sorry.
Matthew fine.

Have you considered Simon?

Wishfulmakeupping · 25/01/2013 21:03

Another vote for Peter think its a fab name and bet there wouldn't be another one at school :)

NowPlayingZone · 25/01/2013 23:15

How about Solomon?

PenelopePisstop · 25/01/2013 23:17
