Biblical boys names

So, DS2 is due in June & it seems to be the thing to do to decide on a name in advance now. The middle name will be John & the surname isn't a vowel so I don't think initials are going to be problematic. Here's a list of the names that we like that haven't already been stolen by friends/family which is most of our favourites, opinions appreciated!

Amos (Pronounciation - AY-mus/a-MOS?!)
Andrew (DH's uncle but I we might get away with it if he was know by a nn!)
Asher
Ezekiel
Ishmael
Levi (Current favourite but has received some negativity from others)
Matthew
Michael (Don't like Mike/Mickey)
Moses (Too patriarchal/old man-ish!?)
Peter (Also one of DH's uncles but seen v infrequently & different surname)

DH made the final choice on DS1's name because I seemed incapable of agreeing on anything shortly after he was born. I don't love his name but I'm mostly over that now! We've agreed that I'll get final say on DS2's name to even-out the decision making but I'm useless at choosing! Someone decide for me!

There's a Peter at DD's preschool, lovely name. I like Matthew too. My DS is Gabriel.

I only met one simeon thirty years ago and the name stuck with me it's so unusual

must have missed Dominic out of my bible ....

Matthew (or if you hadn't discounted J's Jonathan) both mean gift of God.
Reuben

Triplets in the next village to mine (some time ago) named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. I kid you not.

Dominic isn't a biblical name but it's related to God, "in domino confido" and all that. :)

Nathaniel, Thaddeus?

I think if you like Levi, go for Levi, it's great. But don't tell anyone else until the baby's born and you're introducing him - it's completely different from thinking about a name in the abstract.

Have you considered Seth? Otherwise Levi my favourite names out of your list. My boys both have biblical names that you have discounted so far. Malachi is another idea?

From your list I like Ishmael but wouldn't be brave enough to use it. Would you consider Isiah?

We are thinking about Reuben, Gabriel or Eli.

J names would sound great I think, Joel, Josiah, Jeremiah, Jedadiah, also like Nehemiah (maybe spelt wrong? Check your bible!) And Isaiah but maybe I'm biased caused that's one of my fave books in the bible :-) - my ds1 is Noah Gabriel Joseph and ds2 is Isaac James

I'm a Christian but when I hear Levi I think jeans, not OT. I think he would get that reaction in spades from anyone not 'churched'.

Luke, David, Saul, Gideon, Jonathan, Athaliah, Azariah, Ahab, Baasha, Omri, Menahem, Hoshea, Pekah, Manasseh, Samson, Rehoboam, Moses, Paul, Timothy, Ananias, Haggai, Philip, Titus, James, Joel, Samuel etc.

Some of the middle names are kings, but the beginning and end names are more useable I think.

Third son of Adam and Eve.

Love Thaddeus and Gideon. Love Barnabus.

Hate Seth - it is the name I dislike more than any other name, ever. Sounds like hissing. Sorry to any Seth-owners, but it just doesn't work for me.

We have a Gabriel and it suits him so well, very strong and masculine and he is tall for his age. He was Gabe the Babe, then Gabey and now he's finally becoming Gabe. My DH suggested it and I love it.

As a bonus it works in many cultures and languages.

My dn has just named her baby Ezekiel nn Zeke. I had a thread about it last week on here. I'd not come across it before and here it is again. I think it is a grower :-)

On Wikipedia there is a list of names for the biblical nameless, which provides a great unusual resource! Mainly female, of course. Does it count as still biblical though?
