Help - can't name ds4 - here's our shortlist....

StealthToddler · 10/01/2013 15:12

So I have 3 boys and ds4 is due in 9 weeks....

So far I have a George, Thomas and Ollie.

We have a shortlist of names which we like but struggling to come to a decision and DH and I have different favourites.

Shortlist is:
Monty (Montague) - bit concerned that too much like a dog's name and the Monty Python connection!
Hugo
Henry (DH doesn't particularly like it)
Theo (Theodore)
Edward (but couldn't use Ted as short name as with our surname would be a clothes label!)

Can't remember the other names we liked as they are on a list at home but will add on to this thread later!

Any other suggestions welcomed!

Theo or Monty

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 10/01/2013 15:14

Would you consider Seb or Sterling?

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 10/01/2013 15:15

I really like Henry and Monty. Not a fan of Hugo or Theo and while I like Edward I do think avoidance is best if you can't have Ted as a NN.

To throw in some extra suggestions,

Elliott
Christopher / Kit
Alexander / Xander

I think Henry or Edward goes best with your DS's names. Don't particularly dislike any but don't think Monty goes quite as well.

Congratulations Smile

I know lovely little boys with all those names. Discount Henry if dh doesn't like. The Edwards I know are Ed or full name so don't think Ted a problem. Monty and Hugo are, imvho, a step up in poshness from your 3 ds' names-which is fine, but something to think about. I have taught Edwards and Theos from across the social spectrum, Hugo and Monty are quite specific!

AlphaBeta2012 · 10/01/2013 15:22

Love theo and Monty!!

StealthToddler · 10/01/2013 15:22

Thanks all!
Can't go with Matthew, Alexander or James as 1st cousins of my boys have those names - though I also like Jago (welsh for James).
Archie I like but Archibald is quite a first name!
I had also quite wanted a different initial to other boys hence hesitation over Theo but I do like it!

Love Monty, Henry and Hugo in that order.

Theo is nice but rather popular where I am and I think it will date quite quickly.

Edward I find v dull sorry.

seeker · 10/01/2013 18:35

Edward.
Or Theodore.

But Edward.

seeker · 10/01/2013 18:35

Or Partick. Best name ever!

sausagesandwich34 · 10/01/2013 18:36

I think Theo is too close to Thomas

I like Hugo

seeker · 10/01/2013 18:36

Patrick. Not Partick- that's quite different!

MerylStrop · 10/01/2013 18:38

Hugo

I think Eddie is an absolutely brilliant name but couldn't use it

Or Patrick or Hugh

lechatnoir · 10/01/2013 18:40

Gus?
Isaac?
Oscar?
Max?

I think monty sounds wonderful with your other boys names, love edward too but wouldn't use if you can't use teddy etc
Good luck!

overmydeadbody · 10/01/2013 19:19

Hugo

HappyTurquoise · 10/01/2013 19:21

They are all great names, stop worrying. Would advise that it is good to go for distinct initial for each child and adult in the household, to avoid confusion with letters/email addresses and so on. (I speak from experience.)

A lot depends on the child's character, shape, size and general behaviour, but not many children are going to not be able to carry off a name like Monty if they could carry off Hugo (makes me think of the drippy one in Vicar of Dibley) or Theo (makes me think of Brideshead for some reason). I think it's because they are less popular, dare I say uncommon names and so I haven't had those connotations challenged by getting to know a child with that name.

I have met/known a few Montys as adults, all wonderful people.

Have you thought of what his initials will be?

StealthToddler · 10/01/2013 20:16

Hadn't thought about the initials being important for the post - but such a good point!!!!
Our surname begins with a B and yes we are checking what the initials spell!!!
The other one I like but forgot to mention is Benjamin (Ben) but my DH doesn't like alliteration!!!
If we went with Hugo what NN could we use? DH doesn't like huggy or anything similar which I have seen as NNs. Not that it is important and ds1 never has his name shortened!!
Not sure about Sterling - never come across that one before!

ShowOfHands · 10/01/2013 20:19

When I saw your other boys' name, I immediately thought 'Benjamin'. Otherwise, I think Edward goes really well. I know Edwards who are Teddy, Ed and Ned.

Nicknames naturally evolve so I wouldn't make a choice based on what nickname you think might occur. My dc have v different nicknames to what I thought they would.

HenriettaChicken · 10/01/2013 20:20

William would work.

LetUsPrey · 10/01/2013 20:27

I was reading through the thread with a name in mind, got to the post by HenriettaChicken and saw that she beat me to it!

William is a nice name

Definitely agree with the suggestion of Patrick

From your list I like Hugo and Theodore

StealthToddler · 10/01/2013 20:40

Mummy not particularly keen on William as a 1st name. Ds1 has it as a middle name and we want something different (which means we have ready used 9 names hence having run out of them now!)
