I heard a woman in the park calling her little girl Madge. I haven't heard that name in years and years. I also know of a little toddler called Sheila.

Just wondering if any of you know any children with names that you thought had died out completely.

Keith, Philip, Stephen, Kevin.

williaminajetfighter · 09/01/2013 13:21

lily allen named her daughter Ethel. Not one I'd want to bring back into fashion.

CometAndCupid · 09/01/2013 13:48

I love Philip. It is on my list for if I ever have a boy.

Jojobells1986 · 09/01/2013 13:52

I know a baby Nigel. Hmm

gillian88 · 09/01/2013 13:53

I work in a soft play centre so hear all the names and the most old fashioned were twins called Ethel and Martha!! Lol I had to pinch myself really hard to stop laughing, they were about -8months old!

bigkidsdidit · 09/01/2013 14:17

Martha is a normal name isn't t? Ethel not so much perhaps

marzipananimal · 09/01/2013 14:19

I know a toddler called Roy, and one called Gordon. I also know a Richard and an Ian - nice names but seem so unusual on a baby now

atthewelles · 09/01/2013 14:38

I know a Richard. I also know a little Christina and a Francis.

Olive.

I know theres a cleb with a baby Olive which may have started a trend but I can't get past Olive from 'On the Buses'. Needless to say the parents of the baby Olive I know are far too young to remember the TV one.

KnightBusRider · 09/01/2013 14:49

I thought Martha was in the top 100 now. If defintely was when dd was born a few years ago.

Oh and I know 2 Martha's, good name

gillian88 · 09/01/2013 15:10

Yes Martha's quite cute, but Ethel? Lol could just picture a little old lady!! Although my two are called Alfie and Ruby, both old people names apparantly!!

Francagoestohollywood · 09/01/2013 15:10

I am loving 99% of these retro names!!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/01/2013 15:17

Know loads called Ruby so definitely not an old folks' name. Liked it myself but DH didn't. Funny how years later I still perk up when hear of one of the 'discarded' choices in RL.

FlouryWhiteBaps · 09/01/2013 15:22

Hmm, a lot of these names are 'old lady chic' which has been going on for quite some time, names such as Mabel, Elsie and Albert and Stanley for boys.

The ones mentioned I find more ConfusedGrin are the 'mum and dad' or 'auntie and uncle' generation names on babies and small children, such as Janet, Pauline (really? Baby Pauline??!), Gordon and Brian.

I've got a 22 month old Kathleen. She's known as Kitty most of the time though. Met a newborn called Audrey just before Christmas.
