Only 4 weeks and haven't even told anybody in real life yet so no idea on whether it's a boy or a girl (though I have 5 girls already, not sure if my body does boys ... !)

Please can you give me your (brutally honest!) opinions on these names as well as any other suggestions in a similar vein:

Girls:
Cassandra
Arabella
Jessica
Xanthe
Araminta
Alexis
Vanessa

Boys:
Nicholas
Patrick
Alexander
Isaac
Oscar

Absolutely lovely girls names.

Think of alexis as a boy's name though.

Isaac and Oscar I like less than the other boy names.

Ps congratulations! Hope it all goes well.

StellaNova · 17/12/2012 18:54

I love Patrick but couldn't use it on either DS as our surname ends in -ick too. Also love Alexander. Like Isaac very much, neutral on Nicholas and not that keen on Oscar mainly because I know quite a few but don' t hate it.

Not so in love with the girl names but I can see how you must have worked your way through a lot already! Jessica is my favourite. Alexis I like a lot as a name but makes me think Joan Collins! The next generation won't make that association though.

Congrats by the way!

Araminta is my guilty pleasure name......

Oscar is a snake's name

ScaredySquirrel · 17/12/2012 19:03

Apparently Cecilia derives from a welsh name Seissylt meaning 6th child.

I love arabella from your list.

shoobidoo · 17/12/2012 19:39

Love your girls' names especially Arabella and Araminta - classic, feminine and not overused, as well as having lovely nicknames.

I'm not that keen on any boys names but would choose Nicholas if I had to.

AnathemaDevice · 17/12/2012 20:15

Xanthe from your girls names, Nicholas from your boys names. Nicholas is the best boys name, ever. (I may be biased!)

iclaudius · 17/12/2012 22:41

Xanthe and Oscar

lovely family btw 6 of one sex is very special Wink

blameitonthecaffeine · 17/12/2012 22:59

Thanks for the thoughts.

Arabella is my favourite BUT I already have an Isabella (though part of me thinks that if I ended up with 6 girls 2 similar names wouldn't be such a disaster!) which makes me want to go for Araminta but I'm a bit worried it's just too comedy-posh. I do love Xanthe too though. Hmmm, decisions. Maybe it's a short list of 3. My husband (oh so helpfully) said they were 'all very lovely'

Why is Oscar a snake's name? An animal snake or a snake of a man?? Nicholas and Alexander may be my forerunners for boys at the moment. DH likes Nicholas with Oscar as mn.

Interesting about Cecilia too. Great meaning and it's a nice name. Don't know that I love it though.

What are the names of ur girls already!!

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes · 17/12/2012 23:03

What about Arabelle rather than Arabella then?

amck5700 · 17/12/2012 23:03

Vanessa or Patrick.

Would also suggest Meredith or Amaris for a girl and Peter or Edgar for a boy.

amck5700 · 17/12/2012 23:05

Araminta is a hard name to carry I think - makes me think of a very posh, horsey and bit dim person - apologies to any Aramintas out there!

amck5700 · 17/12/2012 23:05

Annabel?

blameitonthecaffeine · 17/12/2012 23:09

nannyof3 - I have Natasha, Rebecca, Matilda, Isabella and Abigail.

musttidy - Arabelle is an interesting idea. I've never heard it used. Like it but worry she would be forever correcting people who heard Annabelle. Which is also nice and another possibility I suppose.

blameitonthecaffeine · 17/12/2012 23:10

X post amxk yes, I do like Annabel (prefer the frillier spelling though)

amck5700 · 17/12/2012 23:14

Hannah
Jessemay

pinkyredrose · 17/12/2012 23:14

Xanthe or Patrick!

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes · 17/12/2012 23:16

Annabelle such a pretty name.
Arabelle
Or Amabelle which I have heard (once) and like too but you will be forever correcting! Congrats btw how lovely for you. Smile

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 17/12/2012 23:21

From your list I love Cassandra and Jessica. I think these go best with your other dd's names too.

I love Patrick best on your boys' name list (nn Patch) but I also really like Alexander, Isaac and Oscar (although I know far too many dogs called Oscar to ever use it myself).

I'm not keen on the names Nicholas and Oscar together - they run into each other too much and it sounds like Nicola Soscar.

ThePoppyAndTheIvy · 17/12/2012 23:31

Thinking of a name to go well with your DD's names - have you considered:

Francesca
Lorna
Charlotte?

I wouldn't go for Araminta as it doesn't go with the DDs you already have IMO.

I like all of your boys suggestions - Isaac has always been a favourite of mine but DH wouldn't allow it for DS2 Xmas Sad. Do you not have one boys name that has always been your favourite, and been "the boys name" in your previous pregnancies? Xmas Grin.

ThePoppyAndTheIvy · 17/12/2012 23:32

Or Amelie?

blameitonthecaffeine · 17/12/2012 23:39

Like Hannah and Francesca from recent suggestions too. Also love that Arabelle means 'prayerful' - the name is growing on me.

The Poppy - the boys name for my first pregnancy was Nathaniel but she was a girl and I used Natasha so that's now out. Then I liked Joshua but my cousin used it (and we're very close so I wouldn't). The shortlist since then has been similar to now.

or even just Anna is nice too.
