Girls' names meaning "dawn" - Aubeline?

Looking for a girl's name that means dawn.

I actually quite like Dawn.

Don't want to use Aurora, just not for me.

I do like Ayelet, "dawn hind/gazelle" in Hebrew.

Stumbled across Aubeline, which allegedly means dawn in French but is potentially way too much like aubergine.

Help!

I love Iola. 'Violet coloured dawn', how beautiful.

Ah Mulberry, you've just reminded me that I'm using Joy as a middle name for family reasons.

So, on the topic of over thinking, doesn't Dawn Joy sound rather like Morning Glory or have I got not only an over thinking but also a low thinking mind?? Poor DD2.....

Yes, Dawn Joy sounds like Morning Glory!

Iola Joy on the other hand.. lovely! Wink

Inclusionist do you say Eye-ola or Ee-ola?

V pretty meaning but it's slightly alliterative with our surname. Glad to see I'm not alone in the dubious connotations thought. Can't believe I didn't make the connection until now. I'm probably too tired and hormonal to be in charge of naming anything at this point......

Lark? They get up early.

Dont forget to get someone to take a picture of the daybreak on her first day.

The reason I've got dawn on my brain is that DD2 represents a new start, after a truly shitful few years. Of course she'll be her own brand new person, and not saddled with the grimness and crap of the past, but she's been forged from it in her own way. And I'd really like to find a name that captures a sense of the dawning of a new era for my little family, which has been just me and DD1 for quite some time now.

I'm open to and grateful for any ideas....

Gloria Joy

Another idea is Vita, life.

Is Gloria really usable? Part of me loves it. The other part thinks Laura Branigan, redeemed by Van Morrison. I love his Gloria, always have.

Gloria Joy?

Gloriana Joy?

Our last name starts with G. Am I onto something or have I lost the plot? Just now, those names feel uplifting, positive and powerful.

But I am mindful of the hormones.

Yika · 08/12/2012 23:49

Vita is lovely. So is Zoe, which also means life.

seeker · 08/12/2012 23:49

Oh sorry, yes. Aviva's the insurance company!

FloozieTinsel · 09/12/2012 00:22

Iola is pronounced Yo-la with a short 'o' sound (not like yo-yo). If you know how the football manager Martin Jol's surname is pronounced, the 'yo' part is the same as the 'jo' bit.

I think having a relative who died young in sad circumstances would put me off a particular name even though I'm not remotely superstitious. Just because of the association if you know what I mean.

Vida?

On the light theme - Chiara? Italian (key-ar-ah) meaning clear, bright.

Good luck!

Vivienne Joy
Vita Joy

Dowan is an old variant of Dawn...

mathanxiety · 09/12/2012 04:48

Olivia is a name signifying a new start and a promise of better times ahead -- the dove sent out from Noah's ark plucked an olive sprig which told Noah that the floodwaters had receded and life could resume on land.

Esperanza means hope. There is also Hope.

Zora (Balkan area), Tsura and Tsuritsa (Romani) mean 'light of dawn'

Zaria means 'morning star' or 'sunrise'

I love Vivienne Joy and Vita Joy.

mathanxiety · 09/12/2012 04:49

You can't have Hope Joy even if it is Christmas Xmas Smile

mathanxiety · 09/12/2012 04:52

I like Gloria too.
