Do you know a baby Nigel?

Or a baby Malcolm? Baby Barry? Baby Kevin?

Just thinking about baby names you don't see very often now. Lots of retro/traditional names coming round again...Albie, Eric, Walter, Henry etc but will we ever see a resurgence of this middling names?!!

Baby Bernard anyone???

Baby Ronald?

NigellasGuest · 13/11/2012 21:40

or Baby Terry?

Lyftiduft · 13/11/2012 22:21

DH agrees that Kevin is no name for a horse Grin

Ian is top of our list if this one is another DS...

A friend was deciding between Melanie and Amelia and went for Amelia in the end. I thought Melanie would have been nicer and more unusual.

SparePants · 14/11/2012 22:23

Bernard was our reserve name for DS. And there is a little Alan at his nursery. I did a double-take in the park the other day when I heard a mum calling her DD Debbie - that was all the rage when I were a girl in the 70s.

mybootsaremuddy · 14/11/2012 22:27

A friend of ours has recently had a baby Reginald. I know a 4 year old Keith and an 8yr old Geoffrey he has a older and younger brother whos names are just as 'retro'. Also know 3 yr old Stephanie and Melissa(twins).

B1ueberryMuff1n · 15/11/2012 08:56

Stephanie is lovely. melissa is not.

But if you can find a name you like that was more popular in another decade but not 100% tied to only that decade, then i think it's a good choice!

dimdommilpot · 15/11/2012 22:25

I met a 15month old bruce recently.

AitchDee · 15/11/2012 22:26

I know a baby Bruce too. Seemed odd at first, but he is most definitely a Bruce.

Haruspex · 30/11/2012 15:37

I have a baby Deborah. We just think it's a really pretty name. She's categorically not Debbie though (although I concede she'll probably end up being called Debbie by schoolfriends further along the line).

ellesabe · 30/11/2012 20:16

I know a baby David and a baby Martin :)

And when I was pg my bump was fondly known as Derek thank God we had a girl otherwise the name may have stuck!

MadStaringEyes · 30/11/2012 22:03

I would have had a baby Colin, if it wadn't half dp's surname.

Derek and Iain were on the longlist.

I know a Jim and Alan, both are 2.

lottiegarbanzo · 30/11/2012 22:28

I don't think this thread has been reading the 'names of last five babies I know' one. There has been more than one Bernard and an Elaine.

FuriousRox · 30/11/2012 23:05

I know a Kenneth who is about five or six. I can't take that name seriously.

Also, my friend's cat was called Malcolm. The cat was female, of course!

KBwan · 01/12/2012 14:26

My friend's husband insisted they call their son Donald. She, however, refers only to him as Don and you can almost see the embarrassment seeping from her if anyone asks his name.
Seems a bit unfair to be growing up in deepest Essex with the name Donald.

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 01/12/2012 15:05

I know a little Nigel. But a baby he isn't.

Pleasenomorepeppa · 01/12/2012 15:12

My Nephew called his baby sister Baby Dave from before she was born to when she was about 1!

aliphil · 05/12/2012 14:38

Janet was on my list for DD, but DH's stepmother is Janette so we couldn't really use it. I considered Melissa too.
