Malachi, Ezekiel, Gideon or Fergus?

Dh and I are going round and round in circles with boys names Angry

From my enormous shortlist, these are the only four that dh deems 'acceptable' so what do you think? Middle name will be George or Henry.

Please be kind, I'm 36+6 and starting to panic!

Malachi is the nicest there imo but there are thousands of them at the minute if that bothers you.

Ezekial is next nicest :)

StrawberryMojito · 22/10/2012 20:23

Fergus is by far the best out of those names.

RTchoke · 22/10/2012 20:28

Arf at there being 1000s of Malachis, it's hardly the next Oliver.

I like Malachi & Ezekiel but wouldn't be brave enough to use them.

Gideon reminds me of George Osborne (it's his real name but he hated it and changed to George). That political association puts me off.

Not sure what I think of Fergus. Would the nn be Fergie or Gus?

eBook · 22/10/2012 20:28

In order of preference

Ezekiel - lovely strong Biblical name. Zeke would be a great nickname too
Malachi - like
Gideon - rather harsh
Fergus - don't like

Ezekiel Henry or Malachi George would be great!

drjohnsonscat · 22/10/2012 20:33

I like them all but Malachi is unusual where I am (London) and my colleague recently had a meeting with one and thought it was pronounced Marlarkey! So be prepared to explain it to Londoners!

RillaBlythe · 22/10/2012 20:36

Fergus or Gideon are the best IMO.

xkcdfangirl · 22/10/2012 20:42

Fergus would be my number one from that list.

Malachi and Ezekiel both just scream "we want to have a biblical name but we want an UNUSUAL one so it makes us sound INTERESTING because we are DESPERATE for you to not think we are BORING"

Gideon just sounds too posh as per Gideon Osbourne the worst Chancellor of the Exchequer in living memory.

Fergus is cool. I know a couple of Ferguses and they are both lovely.

kez1212 · 22/10/2012 20:49

I vote for Gideon. Malachi is becoming quite popular. Ezekiel just reminds me of Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction (And you will know my name is the Lord...), not really the association to have with baby!
What are DH's choices?

Zwitterion · 22/10/2012 20:51

Fergus. But I'm biased.

howiwonder · 22/10/2012 20:52

ha ha - another biased choice for fergus here too...

ruby22 · 22/10/2012 20:55

Malachi, Ezekiel and Gideon- they all just sound like you're trying to hard!

Fergus is ok, best of the bunch imo

camgirl · 22/10/2012 20:57

Fergus here too!

shoobidoo · 22/10/2012 21:03

Gideon is lovely, as is Fergus.

MoelFammau · 22/10/2012 21:16

I love Malachi. I think of the little lad from Angelas Ashes.

cece · 22/10/2012 21:21

Ezekiel - bit too out there for me.
Malachi - ditto
Gideon - Bibles
Fergus - tractors

Not keen on any of them tbh, although I love George and Henry. Smile

TheMightyMojoceratops · 22/10/2012 21:26

Mal and Zeke would be preferable to Gid and Ferg, for me.

Piemistress · 22/10/2012 21:31

Fergus, DS would have been Fergus but DPs surname begins with F and really didn't go. Boo. If you like Malachi what about Lachlann?

Clary · 22/10/2012 21:34

Of the four you list, the only one I would personally use is Fergus.

Gussie a nice nickname too.

I know one Malachi and one only and have never met an Ezekial or Gideon of any age. This is not a great surprise to me.

(btw I also like George and Henry better!)

nahla321 · 22/10/2012 21:50

Malachi or Ezekiel definetly. I personally would use Ezekiel (I love that name!) and shorten it to Zeke Smile

Panzee · 22/10/2012 21:51

One of those is my comedy bump name.

troubador · 22/10/2012 21:54

Fergus! I know a gorgeous one. But, all bias from that aside I also think it's a really cool name.

cupcake19992110436247 · 22/10/2012 22:05

Gideon and furgus xxx

Sossiges · 22/10/2012 22:10

Malachi (I know one, he's lovely)
Fergus

Gideon/Ezekiel - cruel

mayanna123 · 22/10/2012 22:18

Ezekiel is a great biblical name with a lovely meaning - no idea why Sossiges finds it cruel Confused.

I also like Gideon and Fergus but don't like Malachi (mal means bad, so not a great nickname, sorry).

telsa · 22/10/2012 22:28

I love Malachi. Ezekiel is sweet too. I know an Ezra - which is a nice biblical name too.
