Found out this week that DC2 is another boy :o. Great, but bloody hell, boys' names are hard. What do people think of the following?

Aki
Corin
Leo
Robin
Rowan
Sena

(To explain - DH is Japanese. We like fairly gender neutral two-syllable names)

Any other suggestions?

Love Aki and Robin. Don't really like Rowan. Corin sounds more feminine to me. Sena is quite cool too actually.

maxmillie · 12/10/2012 18:43

someone will no doubt be along to pour scorn on these but these are my kind of names - really like Corin and Rowan (I have a son with similar to Corin and really liked Rowan but didn't work with surname). Aki sounds great for a half-Japanese boy. How is Sena pronounced?

Leo and Robin maybe sound a tiny bit too "English" for a half-Japanese boy? What is his brother called?

TheObfuscatingOven · 12/10/2012 18:44

Yes, Sena is a great name and DH really likes it, but I worry people will immediately think of the laxative Confused.

Shion is another one DH likes.

His brother is called Noah, which has since become a very popular English name! Because of DS1s name we can't go totally Japanese (so Hiro, Kenji etc are sadly out). We'd like a vague international feel.

I love aki as well, also sena.

maxmillie · 12/10/2012 18:52

Oh I love Kenji! Could you be persuaded? I know what you mean about keeping a theme though - but is Aki any less Japanese sounding?

TheObfuscatingOven · 12/10/2012 18:55

No, it's not, and DH isn't keen but I love it.

Hmm, Aki probably won't work because the meaning is normally 'autumn' and DC is due next March...

I know 1 half Japanese boy and he is Tomoki but just known as Tom most of the time.

Milo
Theo
Sami
Jonah

I like Aki, Corin and Leo.

MrsJohnDeere · 12/10/2012 19:35

Robin is lovely.

Leo is ok.

Not keen on the rest.

spiderlight · 12/10/2012 19:40

Rowan. It was top of my list for DS and I really regret not using it. Will definitely use it if we ever have a DS2. I love Leo too.

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 12/10/2012 21:00

Aki - my first thought was Purple Aki (but I don't think that would be widely thought of)
Corin - to me it's a girls name
Leo - quite nice and it goes well with Noah
Robin- I prefer this for a girl
Rowan- I prefer this for a girl
Sena - I know a few girls called Senna, so it's a girls name to me.

I really like Hiro though.

PiedWagtail · 12/10/2012 21:01

Aki - like this!
Corin - girls's name
Leo - - quite common but ok
Robin - yes
Rowan - girl's name
Sena - never heard of it and I think it's nice!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2012 21:05

Aki - don't like
Corin - don't like
Leo -ok
Robin like a lot
Rowan -love: dd2 would have been it if a ds
Sena - not fond but only because I taught a v idiotic one

Tomoki is lovely.

evamummy · 12/10/2012 21:23

I think Corin and Robin are lovely - strong, classic and have a nice sound.

I'm not keen on Aki, Leo or Sena, sorry.

evamummy · 12/10/2012 21:25

Corin sounds masculine to me. I think some people might be confusing it with the French name Corinne, with the emphasis on -inne.

But Sena sounds a little too girly to me, sorry.

MoonlightandWerewolves · 12/10/2012 21:26

Really like Corin, and, I know you've slightly vetoed 'proper' Japanese, but have always liked Seiji as I knew a very nice one at one point. With Noah though, how about Elijah?

TheObfuscatingOven · 12/10/2012 21:48

Robin would inevitably be shortened to Rob, wouldn't it. I love the full name but not keen on that as a nn.

Moonlight, I'd like to steer clear of anything too obviously biblical for DC2. It's too much like a theme!

Remus, when you say you taught an idiotic Sena, do you mean a Japanese kid? Or just one named after the racing driver?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2012 21:51

Half Japanese I think - but fully a pain!

TheObfuscatingOven · 12/10/2012 22:02

:o

Actually, this may seem a slight tangent, but how about Laurence? Has a link to Noah ( background ), but is a v. subtle one.

[hopeful emoticon]

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2012 22:16

Love Laurence too - dd1 was going to be that! :)

TheObfuscatingOven · 13/10/2012 00:09

It's a great name - sadly it would go...rather too well with our surname Wink

Love Robin and Aki. I'm considering Ren for mine, it is very popular over there at the moment though.

maxmillie · 13/10/2012 12:15

oooh I love these names, Ren and Aki are fab! May have to find a Japanese second husband ..........
