What kind of names do little girls love being called?

Is it only super-feminine names? I think there are lots of names I think are cool as a grown-up mum that in all fairness I would have hated to be called as a kid.

My daughter likes her (old-fashioned and not very common) name. And she also likes her nickname.

She actually is quite proud of having two names she likes. Some people shorten her name to a different nick name which she isn't too keen on.

I guess her proper name is quite feminine, her nick name is rather neutral, but I honestly believe, if you don't make a big deal of gender roles and guff like that, but just give her a name you truly love, she'll love it too.

none of the girls I know would like that. Where we live, originality is the popular thing, no one wants to share a name.

I DESPERATELY wanted to be called Chan as a child. I don't even remember why. But I'm possibly not indicative of a trend amongst most small children

I don't think they particularly like or dislike any names. I think they like what they associate with a name.
In nursery, my dd wanted to change her name to her best friend's and named all of her dolls and animals after her.
At the moment all of her animals are named after the neighbours cat, and all of her future pets and children will have that same name as well.

my daughter(aged 9) is considered to have a really cool name by her sisters and classmates - it's not at all unusual and is often slated on here - it's Izzy. Her older sister is envious of her name.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be called a name like Frankie, or Danny or Charlie (i.e a boyish name). And then I wanted to be called Sarah.

I think it depends on the individual girl. My dds like names like Rosie and Milly. They are both girlie girls despite me being far from girlie and i didnt bless them with girlie girl names!!

my dd is called Alexandra. she can't quite get over NOT being called Isabel or Amber or Rose.

Whenever my children play make believe, DD2 is always Elizabeth (nice name) but DD1 always insists on being Margaret. For some reason she thinks it is a fab name.

Faye on the other hand, she feels is a bloody odd name and wonders why anyone would ever choose to name their kid that!

.....I always wanted to be called Cilla Black......we'll say no more about that!

I wanted to be Rhona out of the Rhona and Jill pony stories. ( I think my sister wanted to be Rhona as well, but I made her be Jill 'cos she was younger.)

At junior school I don't remember names being an issue at all, but in secondary one poor girl got mocked for being named Prudence (though I daresay if she were cool in other ways she might have got away with it)
and another was considered snooty cos her name was Catriona.

The rest of us were all happy enough sharing the common names of Lyn, Clare, Cathy and Helen. Three or four of each in 90 girls.

If you don't want to saddle your DD with a crappy name, don't pay any attention to what little girls love being called :o

DD wanted to be Aladdia

My dd (7) just wants to be called Rose, or Rosie, Rosette or Rosetta. At a pinch, Lily would also do. None of those are her actual name.

I love all these stories! Hilarious about little 'Margaret'! I think I wanted to be called Sophie, so I called my hamster that instead.

When I was little I wanted to be called Blanche like Rue McLanahan's character on the Golden Girls. My best friend wanted to he called Pearl Chrystal. I wouldn't name my children either of those.

We just came up with a list we liked...no set parameters, that went well with our surname and didn't have a cringeworthy acronym.

Oh and my brother named himself Spike after a character off Hi De Hi. We watched far too much tv as kids!

I wanted Sadie or Yvonne. Cheryl, Cherrie or Charlie were runners up.

I just wanted to have a name that other children had, like Sharon or Samantha or Susan . I liked the prospect of being, for example, Sharon J, instead of being the only one in the school with my name as was the case.

(My name is no longer unusual, having become a regular "top ten" name at around the time I left school. But it was uncommon in the 1970s)

As kids me and dsis liked anything that sounded popstar-ish (in the 80s) Sabrina was a big favourite! also boyish names like Jamie, Georgie and Frankie seemed very exciting to us! we were odd and heavily influenced by Grange Hill and TOTP!

Ds1 really wishes we'd called Ds2 Sven. He thinks its the coolest name ever, he is highly unimpressed by Alexander.

My children call themselves Ella and selenia when pretending.

I always wanted a boyish name - Andy, Danny, something like that. And now we're talking about it, I wonder if that is why DD has a boyish name? Hmm...
