Think we've settled on names - come on MNers... do your worst. What say you?

We don't know if we're team pink or blue, and we aren't going to finalise the name until we meet him / her. Buuuuuut at the moment these are our proposed names?

Jonas Adam - (the Jonas has a soft J like y, and Adam is DH's name - a family tradition), we're still musing on a third name that has a strong meaning for us - possibly Albert.

Lillemor Marlinna and either Bluebell, Pelagia or Liberty as a third name (Lillemor means 'little mother' and is in honour of my late Mum, and Marlinna is a mix of my Mum and sisters' names).

So what do you reckon? Both first names are Norwegian which reflects the naming tradition of where we live (Orkney). Do the names fit? Any suggestions for a third boys name?

I'm not sure I like Lillemor - it sounds like a place name to me or a surname. I like that it has a special meaning for you. Is it pronounce Leel-more or Lily-more or Lil-more?

I do not like made-up names in general so I'm not sure about Marlinna. It does sound like many common names (Marilyn, Marley, Marianne, -lyn names) and it means a lot to your family so I think, for that reason, it's a nice pick. It's just not one I'd pick.

I love your names. I think they're sensitive and interesting. I'm not sure whether every-one will "get" the soft "j" if they haven't met him but it's lovely and suits Orkney. I also like Albert too. Can't really add to those I think you have it bang on. We like Tom and Gabriel, Solomon and Eli but that's just us.

Lillemor is lovely Marlinna is interesting but not too out there to be weird. Again suits where you live too. We like India and Flora personally with Lillbet, Elspeth and Eliza as dirivs of Elizabeth too.

Jonas - fine, lovely.

Lillemor - ok, well I'm not mad on it but if it will fit in Orkney then fine.

What was your mum's name? Marlene? Margaret? Honestly I would just use that as a proper tribute tbh.

If they fit for you then they are nice names. We are far south of the UK and names that are common here would no doubt stand out like a sore thumb in the North of Scotland. Portuguese names are very common which reflects our community.

So while the names sound odd to me that is because I'm not used to them.

From googling I see Thea is a popular Norwegian name. Apparently it means gift from God. I think Lillemor Thea Your Mum's name might be nice? Also I think Linnea is very pretty - is that your sister's name?

I think they are lovely names and the sentiment behind them is also lovely. Bluebell though? You're almost into Apple territiry there! Also not keen on the joining two names together thing. It's a nice idea, but the resulting name is a bit bizarre.

I think that Lillemor Marlinna is enough name though, do you need the second middle name?

Say Lillemor Marlinna out loud a few times. It's like a tongue twister. Too many l and m sounds in quick succession.

And Marlinna sounds made up. Which it is. You can save names for a subsequent child, you know - you don't have to get them all in now!

Love your boys names. But don't like your girls sorry, lillemor I just don't think is pretty, and marlinna makes me think Marlena which to me sounds slightly American and a odd combination.

Wow - that's interesting, the Norwegian thing. Jonas is great, not keen on Lillemor, the made up of two names thing is really bad, and the others are ugly.

Not keen on Marlinna. Could you not use your sister's name or your mother's name?

Albert is nice, but Adam Albert is a bit 'a' heavy.

Bluebell is okish.

Pelagia or Liberty are not names I'm keen on.

Girls names not my cup of tea, but Lillemor is the best of the bunch.

Your girl's names have a lot of syllables and do sound like a mouthful, out loud. I'd go for long / short, or other way round.

I'm from Orkney and I haven't heard of anyone with those names but then I suppose they are a change from the usual Magnus, Erik and Thorfinn and Inga, erica and Ingrid

The boys name is lovely, but I think the girls one is a bit drag-queeny. I think you should pick a more normal girls name.

Lillemor is pronounced Lillamo (with the emphasis on the first syllable) and would be shorted to Lilla or Mo.

My Mum was Lynn and my sister is Maria - I just hate Marilyn as a mix of the two as it makes me think of the bimbo from home and away.

Will have another think. Pelagia was my late Polish Gran so that's where that came from. Bluebell is a bit London I'll admit. I agree on Albert not being ideal with Adam - might have to rethink that too, it was DH's Grandad's name. Would love to have my Dad's name but Kazimierz wouldn't be totally leftfield with the other names and our surname says she glad to have got rid of my Polish maiden name now that WAS a tongue twister

I love the Orcadian names from the old norn but none go with our surname - hence looking at Norwegian names...

Hmmmm - tbh I'm not sure how you can mix Lillemor (lovely pronunciation) and Lynn and ever get something you can actually say. What was your mum's middle name? Or maiden name?

Her middle name was my name and I don't really want to use it, as nice as it is, as think I'd sound a bit of an egotist!!! I'm blaming my twin sis for this trend as she started it by mixing my name and my Mum's for her wee girl's middle name - Caitlynn which works out lovely with her other names. Oh gawd at this rate I might just let DH pick the middle names...

Maybe look at some other Polish family names? It would be nice to reflect that heritage. And if Lillemor is in honour of your mother, do you need to use part of her name too?

What about Marial or Meriel or Meryl? Then you can sort of refer to both your sister and your mum?

Do you know, you very rarely say your DC's full names after announcing their birth and name to everyone, it only really matters how the first and surnames sound together.

You will write their name with middle names on some forms but rarely say them.

Lilla is really nice and the pronunciation of lillamor makes much more sense of it. Personally I like Bluebell, it's one of many flower names, why not?

I agree about Marilyn, but a subtle change of spelling makes all the difference. Marylin, or Marylinne, sound much nicer with an A sound than an a sound.
