Think we've settled on names - come on MNers... do your worst. What say you?

We don't know if we're team pink or blue, and we aren't going to finalise the name until we meet him / her. Buuuuuut at the moment these are our proposed names?

Jonas Adam - (the Jonas has a soft J like y, and Adam is DH's name - a family tradition), we're still musing on a third name that has a strong meaning for us - possibly Albert.

Lillemor Marlinna and either Bluebell, Pelagia or Liberty as a third name (Lillemor means 'little mother' and is in honour of my late Mum, and Marlinna is a mix of my Mum and sisters' names).

So what do you reckon? Both first names are Norwegian which reflects the naming tradition of where we live (Orkney). Do the names fit? Any suggestions for a third boys name?

I like Marlena (think Suzanne Vega song of mid 80s, or Dietrich) but prob not with Lillimor.

There are some lovely Polish names. If I'm right Lillemor wasn't your mum's name. Why not choose your baby a fresh first name just for her to reinvent anew, and then use the name Marlena as a pretty middle name for Maria and Lynn it's Polish and makes me think of Marlene Deitrich, and Suzanne Vega's song! Or call her Lydia Marie a nice modern remix of Lynne and Maria.

Marlena is lovely. Hmmm....

We're fixed on Lillamor (it's been my favourite name since I was like six and knew a Swedish friend with the name, it's only because it means 'little mother' that it recently ticked my sentimental boxes - I had no clue previously that was what it meant).

The changed emphasis / pronunciation of Marylyn is also nice.

Liberty's a bit vague and 'done' too. Pelagia (hard g?) is my fave because of Captain Corelli.

Ooh how about Kashmir for boy or girl in honour of your dad? Bit of Led Zep.

I love Kashmir and travelled there years ago - amazing place. Hmmm see the closest English of Kazimierz is Casimir which I like but DH knew a wanker called that so unlikely to be a go-er as far as he's concerned. The Pelagia would be a soft g like the Polish - my Gran had this name and it was always shortened to Pela (short e) and I love it, in fact i prefer the shortened form so might suggest Pela as a middle name. My sis' isn't planning more kids but yes this is our first so we could have more daughters. Equally this bellydweller could be a boy and I might avoid the quandry altogether. I clearly have the intuition of a brick but I have NO clue at all as to gender. I did think it was a girl but now I'm not sure at all.

I really like Lillemor and Marlinna, but not together as its so tricky to say! I like Pela too, although not Pelagia so much, I think it looks harsher written down than it sounds, and middle names are rarely used for anything bar formal purposes.

Your boys name is lovely

Just because your sister found a name that paid tribute to you and your mother doesn't mean there is now a tradition to live up to. I think if you choose Lillemor you really shouldn't use another name with lots of 'l's and 'm's because your child won't really want a tongue twister of a name. If Lillemor is already a tribute to your mum then why not just pick a name that references your sister - there are lots and lots of Mary/Marie variants.

If I were you though I'd just use two names, Lillemor Pelagia sounds lovely (likewise Jonas Adam is much better without adding Albert too). I say this as an owner of three names who has found having two middle names a bit of a nuisance.

I think Lillemor Marlena is lovely, but just as no one seems to have mentioned it, it reminds me of 'Lili Marlene' the German love song, my Gran loved the words "My Lili of the lamplight, my own Lili Marlene." Wiki link

Waves What about Merryn as a middle name? It kind combines Maria and Lynn. With a little artistic creativity!

I've only ever known one Merryn, and I thought it was cute!

Also keep in mind she will inevitably become Lily and there are lots and lots of Lilys.

Another Swedish name that means mother is moa (rhymes with noah) my DP's neice is called Moa and she hates babies and kids, not really a fitting name for her!

Moa is cute but isn't it also a big extinct bird from NZ (or did my brain make that up!?)

Ooh, Merryn is a lovely name! Merry is a v cute shortening too.

Merryn sounds a bit Welsh to me which is always a good thing :)
