I have a dd and a ds already. We are dutch speakers and our children have dutch names. It's a pain having to constantly correct spellings though. So this time we are looking for short names that work in both languages.
What do you think of Lynn for a girl? Any other suggestions for short (phonetic) names?

My lovely aunt is Lynne. Needless to say I like it! Has to have an 'e' though!

I like Femke....is that Dutch? But if you want English...how about Anne? That's pretty and simple too.

There are a lot of names that incorporate Lyn or Lin.

.... and so on

We are German/British and I know how hard it is to find names that work in both languages.

We had to rule out any name with 'th' or ending in 'te' (like Renate or Ute) because our families would not be able to pronounce it.

What about Beatrice or Daphne? I love both those names.

Oh, wait. The Queen is Beatrix, isn't she?

Linnhe? As in the Loch?

Lindsay? I like Lin very much but am biased due to lovely sister of that name :-)

Agree, Lynn is terrible. What about Nina?

Hmm. My name is Lynne and I've never especially liked or hated it but am a bit gutted now to see that everyone hates it

I actually quite like it. Also like Norah. How about Ashlyn or something else with Lynn in? Rosalynn, Carolyn etc.

I thought that, but then realised the OP is after a short name. Perhaps they have a very long surname.

I like Lynn, though I see I'm in the minority. Where I live Lynn is another word for waterfall.

Lynn or Lynne is lovely. I can't believe people are suggesting that Nora is a better choice than Lynne! Nora= nitty Nora . Lynne=lovely Lynne.

Well Nora is more fashionable and yet classic isn't it. Lynn is a bit like Tracy or Nicola. It's what MUM''S are called. Not babies!

I actually like it. I think you could be ahead of the curve on the return of 50s retro names. And I like it just being Lynn(e) and not a shortening for Linda.

What about Nina or Tina? Both cool short names.

swedish NO no no. Lynn is not a 50s retro name...that would be Jean or Sally....or Fran.

Lynn was massively popular in the 70s and slightly less so in the 60s.

Weeeell, a lot of the Lynns I know 2 of them would definitely have been born in the 50s. Lindas and Lindseys are a 60s and 70s thing.

I like it! My best mate is Lynne, not 50, not a civil servant. I think it is quite elegant.

I agree that Lynn was popular for 50s babies, but I would say Linda was also 50s. There is always a bit of overlap though.

Oh, and I would disagree that Jean was a 50s name. I was born in the 50s and never met a single Jean of my age. Quite a few of our mothers were named Jean though, so I would place Jean as a 30s name.

Wow. Lots of Different opinions. dance we do have a very long and difficult surname so i'm looking for very short names. I'm not keen on Nina or Tess as they don't go with the other names. I might test the MN water again closer to due date.
In the end it is the child that claims the name and not the other way around

How about Linnet instead? Easy for Dutch folk to say, pretty bird name.
