Would this come across as a bit narcissistic?

First DC due at the beginning of December and we know he's a boy. We're pretty much set on Christopher Hugh, using Kit as an everyday/nickname.

However, it's just occurred to me (duh!) that my name is Kate, and it might sound a bit odd/egotistical that his name is so similar to mine. DH thinks it's a non-issue and it hadn't occurred to him either, but now I've started thinking about it I'm starting to wonder if people will think it's odd...

So I'm putting it to the MN jury - thanks!

Is kit short for Christopher? Never heard of it
Makes me think of Kitty , sorry

Wheredidmyyouthgo · 15/09/2012 16:12

It would not occur to me at all! Good luck for December!

QOD · 15/09/2012 16:13

Nope, kit and Kate are totally different

Go for it

Bunbaker · 15/09/2012 16:21

Some wit might make reference to those chocolate covered biscuits though.

Frontpaw · 15/09/2012 16:27

Not too close at all.

I do wonder of the mums who say 'baby will be XX, nickname YY' how many of the babies end up actually being called by their nickname. Most people I know have odd nicknames which bear no resemblance to their actual name.

I like the idea of Kit and Kat though.

TudorJess · 15/09/2012 17:07

I think they're rather too similar, sorry.

newby2 · 15/09/2012 17:42

Lovely-go for it.

TheMonster · 15/09/2012 17:45

I like it. Makes me think of Knight Rider.

NellyJob · 15/09/2012 17:47

they are both great names but....y know...kit kate?

Schmasch · 15/09/2012 17:49

Yep, I think they're very similar. Kit's an odd name too. What's wrong with just calling him Christopher, if that's the name? Chris for short?

NellyJob · 15/09/2012 17:52

Kit is a most historical nick for Christopher, y know? Kit Marlowe?

almapudden · 15/09/2012 18:27

I love the name Kit as a nn for Christopher, and I don't think it's too similar to Kate. Go for it!

IHeartKingThistle · 15/09/2012 18:49

Oh I just love Kit, just love it. I don't think you need to worry about the other thing - DD's name is very similar to mine and no-one has ever made the connection!

minceorotherwise · 15/09/2012 18:50

I think Kit is lovely too
You are over thinking it
I would never make the connection to Kate

Thingiebob · 15/09/2012 18:55

If you like it, use it!

Thing3WearingOrangeWithPride · 15/09/2012 19:01

My name is Katherine and DD2s name is Caitlin, nobody has commented. EXDH wanted to call DD3 Erin but I thought that was going to far!

Thing3WearingOrangeWithPride · 15/09/2012 19:02

By the way that means if you like it then use it and don't worry Grin

WomanvsFood · 15/09/2012 19:20

Thanks everyone - I feel much more sure about it now, dissenters notwithstanding. I just love the name so much (Christopher too), and neither of us can think of anything else that comes even close.

I'm actually quite liking the whole KitKat thing - why not a Hollywood TomKat/Brangelina style shorthand for introducing ourselves at mother and baby groups? Grin

A friend of mine called Katherine named her baby Katie. Didn't occur to me until months later she had given her her own name :)
Not sure people will take much notice of kit and kate especially when you are naming him Christopher

crackcrackcrak · 15/09/2012 19:49

Kit is great. My friends dc all have the same initials as her - no one has suggested its narc - no one bats an eyelid really Grin

LemonLovesLilac · 15/09/2012 22:11

Great name I would never take it hat you named the child after yourself

mathanxiety · 16/09/2012 05:59

Not too close at all imo.

Very nice name too.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 16/09/2012 06:38

I think its fine. Three days after getting out of hospital with dd, someone pointed out that dds name was a back to front version of my name (shortened version everyone uses for me) - didnt click with us at all, but we were too set to change it.

I do put my longer name on cards etc when writing the families names out as it seems so obvious on paper and I dont wast people to think I did it o purpose.

Catsu · 16/09/2012 07:30

Absolutely fine. Lovely name!

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 16/09/2012 18:21

Non-issue. Love Kit :)
