I really like it and would use it but I know (or at least presume) I'm in the minority.

lisaro · 12/09/2012 09:23

No, think it's a no no because frankly its awful.

IawnCont · 12/09/2012 09:23

I wouldn't. Sorry.

emmyloo2 · 12/09/2012 09:24

I really don't like it, Beckhams or no Beckhams. Can you imagine a woman entering a board room and introducing herself as "Harper"?

I can't.

Rachog · 12/09/2012 09:25

I like it although the beckhams would put me off a bit, I guess it depends when baby is due, if enough time has passed to not associate it with them.

seeker · 12/09/2012 09:26

She would actually be called "Harpernonothafterthemi'vealwaysreallylikedit" Which is, you will agree, a bit of a mouthful.

canistartagainplease · 12/09/2012 09:33

Harper sounds really lovely, and obviously you kind of think of Harper Lee, so its sophistocated (i think, anyway).
Its american so i guess thats why the Beckhams were attracted to the name, but maybe for that reason, people might say no.
Its still nicer than any of the top five uk names, so I would go for it.

KosherBacon · 12/09/2012 09:34

I love Harper but definitely wouldn't use it after the Beckhams used it.

GoldPedanticPanda · 12/09/2012 09:36

I love it, but unfortunately people would always think you've named her after the Beckham baby.

mamaLou13 · 12/09/2012 09:37

seeker I don't really understand what you mean by your post? Why would that be her actual name?
Just wondering if you would not use it is it because you don't like the name? In which case if you DID really like the name would you use it then or would you cross it off because it is such a well known celeb baby name?

I like it. I don't know if I would use it though, I would get fed up with everyone thinking I idolised the Beckhams Confused

TudorJess · 12/09/2012 09:49

Too surnamey for me.

TaperJeanGirl · 12/09/2012 09:59

I quite like it, Dave Grohl also has a daughter named Harper, much better association than the Beckhams!

DessieLou · 12/09/2012 11:25

It's one of my favourite names (love 'To Kill a Mockingbird') and I was actually really miffed when the Beckham's used it! It puts me off a little but I think enough time has passed that people won't think you copied. And who cares anyway, if you love it go for it! OH won't let me Sad.

MrsJohnDeere · 12/09/2012 11:37

I'm not keen on the name, but the Beckham connection would make it a definite no-no for me.

Badgerina · 12/09/2012 11:50

I wouldn't use it because of the Beckhams. It also sounds a bit like Harpie...

laptopcomputer · 12/09/2012 11:52

No matter what you say, people will think you aspire to be Victoria Beckham.

KentuckyFriedChildren · 12/09/2012 11:58

I don't like it and didn't know about the Beckham's child. Celeb association wouldn't necessarily put me off a name though.

iseenodust · 12/09/2012 12:05

Ignoring the Becks issue, to me it just sounds like a boys name.

shoobidoo · 12/09/2012 12:06

Harper sounds masculine, harsh and not elegant at all, sorry.

BoerWarKids · 12/09/2012 12:10

I like it, Mockingbird reference, also a great character from Angels in America.

But, the Beckhams using it would put me right off.

imnotmymum · 12/09/2012 12:12

I like Harper but for me makes me think of the girl in Wizards of Waverly place. It is American sounding though.

littlebluechair · 12/09/2012 12:27

I think Seeker is right, everyone will ask if she's named after the Beckhams' child. I like the name myself, but it has been tainted (unless you actually like the Beckhams, in which case go for it).

PandaWatch · 13/09/2012 21:54

Bear in mind her full name was Elle Harper Lee. But you should use whatever name you wish. You may get Beckham comparisons but it''ll soon pass once your dd becomes the Harper that all your friends and family know.
