Harper was our front runner girls' name when I was pregnant with DS (didn't find out the gender).
The Beckhams had their baby girl when I was 7 months along and straight away my husband and I looked at each other and said "that's Harper off the table then".
Not that I don't still love the name but I didn't want to spend my life saying "hernameisHarperandnowedidn'tnameheraftertheBeckhams" - plus I knew it would jump massively in the popularity stakes and I wanted something on the slightly more obscure scale.
I like the Beckhams though and on a scale of one to blindingly stupid names, Harper is refreshingly normal.

I think Harper is lovely. Smile

I shouldn't worry about the Beckam connection. Inthink a lot of people won't even think of it.

Yuk name - sorry.

I've always liked it, but lots of celebs have used it besides the Beckhams (Neil Patrick Harris for one) so I think it will date.

Presumably any girl called Harper will eventually get called Harpy for short, in the playground or at home. The definition of "harpy" is a nasty, bad-tempered woman (similar to harridan). For that reason alone, I'd avoid it.

Not for me, because of the link with posh'n becks.

I personally think the name is beautiful and woud go for it if you love it.
