we are having a boy and my top name was Seth. However I heard Jasper when we were on holiday and I think I have fallen in love with it. Just wondered what other people thought

Great name.I like Seth even more, but love Jasper too.

PuffPants · 07/09/2012 18:33

I think it's a bit weak and fey sounding.

Sorry.

hellokitty123 · 07/09/2012 18:34

Jasper is lovely (as long as you don't shorten to Jas).

IawnCont · 07/09/2012 18:35

Seth is far nicer. Though there used to be biscuits called Jaspers, and we should name more children after biscuits.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 07/09/2012 18:36

My dog is called Jasper, so I obviously like it. And we do shorten it to Jas.

nat394 · 07/09/2012 18:37

I think it's lovely. I haven't heard of any littles boys named Jasper so I'd go for it!
With a name like that though he will have to be a strapping young boy! if he's a bit weedy the poor thing will just be a target for bullies. My 5yr old is named Amadeus. He's a big confident boy though so he pulls it off ( one unfortunate child tried to pick on him and called him " AmaGAYus". He got a thump and it didnt happen again!)

AWomanCalledHorse · 07/09/2012 18:38

I love it. Although could never use it as FIL is a massive Jasper Carrott fan.

javotte · 07/09/2012 18:40

I love it. It was on my list for a boy but DC3 is a girl!

MolatovBomb · 07/09/2012 18:59

I really like Jasper! Just lovely :)

Twonker · 07/09/2012 19:01

Yuk. Sorry.

bigknickersbigknockers · 07/09/2012 19:05

Prefer Seth, Jasper sounds like a puppy to me

BombusBombus · 07/09/2012 19:07

Jasper is very pretentious.

fridakahlo · 07/09/2012 19:08

Jasper has come up a couple of times recently, I've noticed because if I was ever to have another baby (so not happening!) and it was a boy, he would be Jasper William.
It's a fab name!

TudorJess · 07/09/2012 19:09

Not particularly keen. Posh or Carrott.

PuppyMonkey · 07/09/2012 19:09

Good!

TudorJess · 07/09/2012 19:10

Really like Seth though!

Tw1nkle · 07/09/2012 19:12

I prefer Seth - in fact I LOVE Seth!
Wasn't Jasper a cartoon ghost?

PineappleBed · 07/09/2012 19:14

Love them both. Are you pronouncing jasper with a ja sound or a ya sound? My friend is pronounced ya-sper.

DorothyGherkins · 07/09/2012 19:16

Jasper Conran. Very stylish.

PurpleAndPoppyWearer · 07/09/2012 19:16

I love Jasper. Sadly I had a colleague I disliked called Jasper at the time we were expecting DC1 so it departed our list. DC1 was a DD anyway.

Still like the name though.

NotInMyDay · 07/09/2012 19:21

Fabulous name.

wishingonadream · 07/09/2012 19:24

It would be a ja sound. We are very keen on having a list and seeing what suits him, but think this is definitely our top name

I love it. However, I once knew a pig named Jasper so I couldn't use it as it keeps reminding me of him.

A real pig, not a person.

wishingonadream · 07/09/2012 19:29

It was Casper the ghost. Luckily he has a big bolshy sister who will sort any bullies out for him!

Love Jasper but I like 'posh' names (already have a Hugo and expecting a Monty in a few months time).

For some reason I really don't like Seth. To me it's the sound an evil serpent makes and has a very sly sound to it. Am prepared to accept that that's just me!
