Frank opinions please - Ava Maria

I'm thinking of calling DD Ava Maria. Does it sound too much like Ave Maria?

DH's family is Catholic so may have strong opinions - and I do love my classical sacred music ...! But my reason for wanting these names is that I'm really just looking for variations on Eve and Mary as they are significant to me but I don't really like either of them as a name for my child IYSWIM?

Ava Manon? But we have no French links ....

Ava Marian/nne ... That could be politically incorrect within DH's family for certain reasons though!

Thoughts please? I know Ava is very popular just now but I'm ok with that, I prefer it to Eva.

Yes, it looks and sounds very much like Ave Maria. Thats how I read it on active convos.

VickyandAlistair · 27/08/2012 14:38

It does make me think of the song, not that that is a bad thing - its a lovely song. Ava Mariana is nice as an alt?

jkklpu · 27/08/2012 14:39

yes, sounds too much like Ave Maria for me
why not Maria Ava?
or Evelyn Maria?

Alameda · 27/08/2012 14:42

thanks, something playing in my head that I actually like

as a nyahnyah Maria I recommend keeping the names separate, whatever you choose - I never feel quite right just as nyahnyah but I hate hate being nyahnyahmaria all one horrible long name

FiveRingsForDinner · 27/08/2012 14:43

Why not Ava Mae?

Or Marita/Marina/Marsha/other Mary variant. That wd work better with Ava as a middle name though....

Tbh - in terms of references - Mary & eve together are a bit much for my taste. First woman and the mother of God seem greedy Wink

Chocoholiday · 27/08/2012 14:43

Definite no no. Ava and Maria are both very pretty, but not together.

Alameda · 27/08/2012 14:46

or maybe should stick them together, like mariangela but mariava or something

Bearcrumble · 27/08/2012 14:47

It does sound too much like the song. Ava is a very faddy name at the moment (has been for a few years now), along with Evie and Amy - do you want her to share a name with lots of other girls at school?

Flimflammery · 27/08/2012 14:47

What about Miriam for Mary? Very biblical.

Alameda · 27/08/2012 15:03

just announced that I was changing my name to Ave Maria and my 13yo had a complete fit of histrionics

now I really really want to

ASAPRocky · 27/08/2012 15:04

What about Marie instead of Maria?

LynetteScavo · 27/08/2012 15:12

I like it.

But I really like Anna Maria.

Ava Marianne is also nice. Don'tn worry about Ava being faddy (I only know one). You could go for a more unusual name, and see it shoot up quickly in popularity.

MrsJohnDeere · 27/08/2012 15:27

I read it as Ave Maria

CanoeSlalom · 27/08/2012 17:06

Yes, Ave Maria was my first thought.

Yes, it does sound too much like Ave Maria - poor lass will be the butt of jokes her whole life.

mathanxiety · 27/08/2012 17:53

Ava Marianne
Ava Maryam

Eva Marie

Ava Maria is far too close to Ave Maria.

MrsBingo · 27/08/2012 18:05

it's very very catholic

missnevermind · 27/08/2012 18:05

I have a friend called this.
It is a beautiful name.
Will it be Ava-Maria or Ava (Maria) Surname

SecretNutellaMedallist · 27/08/2012 18:09

I burst out laughing when I heard the combination. Sorry.

From a Catholic who has a huge interest in music, please don't. My own first name is Maria which had all the pisstaking throughout childhood and teens, especially as I was involved in lots of choirs. Adding Ava? Poor poor child.

How about Mariana Eve?

HecateHarshPants · 27/08/2012 18:16

Both names are lovely, but you do realise you would condemn her to a lifetime of 'funny' people singing Ave Maria at her, don't you?

Over and over and over and over and over.

She will not thank you.

My name and my sister's names come together to make the names of a rather naff duo from the 60s. I cannot tell you how sick I got of people singing cinderella rockefella at me.

And everyone who does it thinks that they are oh so witty and nobody has ever thought of doing that before.

HecateHarshPants · 27/08/2012 18:16

my sister's name. not names

VeryGood · 27/08/2012 18:17

Thanks everyone and especially those who have suggested alternatives.

missnevermind really? That's interesting. How old is she if I may ask? I wouldn't hyphenate, it would be two separate names and really she'd be Ava, the middle name wouldn't come into play.

Oh well back to the drawing board. DH was a bit Hmm as well so it's not looking hopeful Grin

I know someone who called their dd Ava Marie/maria can never remember. I will admit i sniggered when i heard it.

Imo ava is very common. I know quite a few avas.

SecretNutellaMedallist · 27/08/2012 18:22

HEc, does your sister still post on MN?

wigglesrock · 27/08/2012 18:23

Is it really going to cause that much bother - honestly I have 3 daughters from 7 years - 18 months and I can't think of any time their middle names have been used as yet, certainly not "said".

I like both names.
