I prefer Louise. I don't think Gladys' moment has quite returned yet...

HaveALittleFaith · 19/08/2012 08:23

Mmm Louise would be my preference.

StormGlass · 19/08/2012 13:11

Louise

comelywench · 19/08/2012 13:12

Louise, Gladys is just a bit too "granny" fir my taste. I like "Gladdy" tho as a NN

wellwisher · 19/08/2012 13:21

Gladys? Is this a joke? Louise is a bit 1970s/80s but at least you won't have people looking round for a lost granny every time you call your DD's name n public.

Debeez · 19/08/2012 13:33

I like Gladys. Thing is about these names sometimes people Hmm at them but once they're used to it it's just another name.

I'm sure Elsie made the top ten or twenty this year and that's considered a more old fashioned name.

Louise is also lovely.

Leeds2 · 19/08/2012 13:34

I don't think that Louise is at all 1970s/1980s - I think it is quite popular these days, especially as a middle name. Don't know any child called Gladys though!

LemonOCOGTurd · 19/08/2012 13:36

Louise. Although I actually prefer Louisa.

tummytickler · 19/08/2012 13:50

I really like Gladys! Lovely happy name, and I would use it if I were to have 10 daughters. Louise is nice enough but Gladys is much lovelier.

Fireandashes · 19/08/2012 13:51

Louise. Gladys is still a bit old-people's-home.

Janoschi · 19/08/2012 14:13

My Gran was Gladys Louise. My middle name is Louise but my dear Gran always wanted me to have Gladys. Just wondered if my DM made the right choice! It seems so, though I personally wish I'd have had Gladys....

I'd quite like to be called Gladys.

WerthersUnOriginal · 19/08/2012 14:15

Well Louise out of the two. Gladys though? Enough with the ironic old lady/man names, argh!

Janoschi · 19/08/2012 14:21

Me too, Pickles.

I don't want to be rude but I don't like either of them.

Gladys is just too old lady, but not a nice old lady name. It's more in the Maureen, Doreen, Beryl category.

I went to school with loads of Louises so I tend to think of it as a (slightly naff) 70s/80s name that's not due a revival.

jellybeans · 19/08/2012 14:30

Louise is nice, I prefer Eloise though-abit more modern. Gladys I really dislike. It is like trying to hard for a 'granny chic' name. Sorry if this offends, there are very few names i really dislike but I would think very carefully about using this one!

Olympicnmix · 19/08/2012 14:31

Whilst I like OLC , Gladys isn't, but it is distinctive. Louise is often pn in a vowel-mangling way, prefer Louisa which is crisper. So if it was an option 1)Louisa 2)Gladys 3)Louise

squoosh · 19/08/2012 15:24

Gladys or Louise?

You really need to ask?

Jakeyblueblue · 19/08/2012 15:38

I'm a Louise and have no problem with that but be prepared, that if you go for Louise, then dd will rarely be actually called it. Husband calls me blue as in Lou Lou blue and everyone else calls me me Lou or Lou Lou, whether I ask them to or not. If you don't mind that, then it's a lovely name. Smile

ninjawomble · 19/08/2012 16:41

Louise out of your 2 names, but much prefer Louisa

getthecakeready · 19/08/2012 19:20

Louise. Is it really 70s/80s though? I thought it is pretty popular now?

not fond of Gladys..

ErikNorseman · 19/08/2012 21:05

Gladys Grin no.
Louise is fine, Louisa or luisa are nicer.

Takver · 19/08/2012 21:30

Louise - lovely classic name. Personally I don't like Louisa anywhere near so much.

Bue · 19/08/2012 22:37

Louise was the 288th most popular girls' name last year, so it's still used a decent amount. I think it's lovely.

Gladys was the 2893rd most popular girls' name last year. I'm not sure it's quite ready for a comeback

Bluestocking · 19/08/2012 22:38

Honestly? Neither. They're both horrible. Louisa is quite nice, though.
