Well, I'm stuck with Louise already. Was thinking how it might be if I switched to being called Gladys. Obviously seems to be an unwise move. Hmmm.

I'm sorry but the first thing I thought of when I saw the name Gladys was this

Well, now it HAS to be Gladys!

Who cares if it's ready for a come back? The name you choose doesn't have to be a zeitgeist-y one. In fact, there's a school of thought which says thse names should be actively avoided if you don't want your name to date badly. Wink

At least no-one will be abe to pin-point a Gladys to the noughties and teenies like Ruby, Millie, Evie, Ava, Daisy, et al.

Personally, I prefer Louise/a, but just making the point.

Gladys will come back in time. I know one, half French, half English, so it is is sometimes pronounced Gladeeees, which may be prettier. I know another Gladys, from Colombia, who is not an old lady. Ripe for reusing I would say, if you like it.

Wasn't Gladys a character in hi-de-hi? Try you tube...

My Gran was also Gladys Louise.

Not keen on Gladys, so my daughter has Louise as a middle name.

I think it´s a lovely name-don´t know why people are so sniffy about it.

fedupofnamechanging · 20/08/2012 10:04

Gladys is hideous. I have Louise as a middle name and although I wouldn't have chosen it for my dd, it is much nicer than Gladys.

We just fostered a dog called Gladys. We tended to call her Gladdy which is lovely IMO. Or Glads. So many people commented what a lovely name. Although I appreciate its different for a dog...

diddl · 20/08/2012 12:36

I knew a dog called Gladness, which I thought was lovely.

squoosh · 20/08/2012 12:41

Gladys for a dog is brilliant! Hilda and Gertrude are also people names that work better on pets.

iMoniker · 20/08/2012 12:48

Gladys - I really don't like it.
Louise - ok.
