Is Rose overdone as a girl's middle name?

I am (sort of) TTC and semi-obsessed with baby names.

Anyway, I love the middle name Rose for a girl, though I know it's very popular. My grandfather grew roses and they always make me think of him, so I feel like it'd be honoring him in a small way.

Is it too common, though? It doesn't really matter, I suppose. But when I grew up every other girl had Marie as a middle name and it got a bit old after awhile.

It is popular yes. But if there's a lovely meaning behind it then who cares?

DD's middle name is Rose. After one of my favourite people in the world.

Yes, I hear it all the time as a middle name lately. That, and May/Mae.
I think your sentiment is lovely so quite a nice reason to use it if you are particularly fond of it.

Also DH got me a rosebush recently because he'd heard me mention my Grandpa's garden, and thought I'd want to grow them too. :) It was just spur of the moment and lovely of him, so I have good associations with roses.

Yes, I think it's lovely but way too popular as a middle name right now. Similar to the middle names Louise and Jane in the seventies. You could always use a variant like Rosa, Rosalie, etc. or how about as a first name? I think Rose is very classy and simple and not at all overused as a first name.
Having said all that, if you really want it as a middle name when the time comes, don't worry about it and just go for it.

I actually do love Rose/Rosie as a first name but our last name is Brick. I get the feeling it wouldn't be a good choice. :o

Ignore what you hear and go with what you like and want. i live abroad and chose Rose 6 years ago as a middle name for purely our reasons, had no idea on trends etc in the UK. Then 3 years ago named dd2 middle name as Grace as again it was as we wanted it and had no idea that it was so popoular in the UK.
If you like it then use it........

Yes, I know loads. If you're using it for a reason - in memory if someone eg - then its nice. But it seems to have become a very pedestrian middle name.

Only know one girl with Rose in her name and its her first name.

Rose and Mae are the Jane and Louise of the 1970s. Nice enough but very common.

I do think Rose (along with Grace and May) are the modern day equivalents of Ann, Louise, Marie in the 70's. Not that it would really matter too much to me. I think middle names are a perfect opportunity to have something that means something to you and Frances Rose is just lovely

Its a name that runs through my family and dhs.

Apparently it's popular - I guess it's short and sweet and flows well with many names. Our dd3 is X Rose - she didn't have a name for a couple of days, and one of the names we tried out was Rosie because she was so bright red! When dh suggested X again, dd1 said X Rose, and it seemed perfect.

So if you like it for a reason, go for it :-)

It is very very popular but who cares? It's beautiful. We chose dds' middle names because we liked the meaning behind them and I still get the fuzzy feeling knowing the meaning is in their names :). Don't actually live the names themselves though.

It is lovely, but christ, pretty much every girl I know that has been born in the last 2 years has the middle name Rose, Grace or Mae (and I am seriously not exagerrating here - there are 4 Lily Roses!)

Rose is a beautiful name but very popular as a middle name along with Mae/May/Mai and Grace! Most girls I know have those a middle names.

Rose is not much used as a first name which is a shame as it's simple but very pretty.

If you like it, use it.

It is very popular. But for just the same reason Louise and Jane were the default middle names of my generation - short, flows well with lots of names, doesn't spell many unfortunate initials.

Lol the 1980s middle name is Elizabeth, first name Catherine. I know 4 people with this combo and everyone else I know has Elizabeth as a middle name.
Choose an interesting middle name or it econes so generic nobody asks the meaning eg James for 1980s boys

Waaaay overused. Along with Grace. Every child has Grace or Rose as a middle name yet no one seems to use them as first names. I love them both but would use them as first names, not middle names.

Way underdone as a first name, though. I would lean heavily towards it as first name, if pg today (thank goodness not!)

I love Rose as a first name as well, but Rosie Brick just doesn't do it. Sigh.
