Do you have or know a baby Percy?

This is for a friend.

She knows she is having a boy, and is very very concerned with picking something that is unusual. She wants him to have a name that no other child in his class will have.

She loves Percy, but would like to know how popular it is right now. She is worried that Percy is becoming more popular.

Do you have or know any baby Percys?

I know a 6 year old Percy.

Jojay · 30/07/2012 19:49

I met one once. He must be about 2-3 now.

Irrelevent I know, but I think it's awful.

cakeismysaviour · 30/07/2012 19:50

Jojay - I think its ok, but I don't love it. She does though. :)

No, I don't know anyone under the age of 80 called Percy.

SwedishEdith · 30/07/2012 19:54

There was one on holiday a few years ago who would be about 8 or 9 now?. I think it's encredibly cute...on a little boy

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 30/07/2012 19:57

I know a Persephone known as Percy.

She should call him John or Stephen, they are very unusual now!

hattifattner · 30/07/2012 19:58

I know a 12yo Percy. Not for me, Im afraid, it is just trying too hard.

peeriebear · 30/07/2012 19:59

I don't know any. For me it will always be weedy fop Lord Percy Percy from Blackadder.

cakeismysaviour · 30/07/2012 19:59

Thanks for replies.

I think she is worried that it is coming back into fashion like lots of other 'old man' names are.

Oh God, I really wanted to call our son Percy but made the mistake of telling my family and friends who A) laughed, and B) told me which body part it's a common nickname for. We called our baby Percy throughout the pregnancy though (despite not knowing its gender!) but actually when he arrived it didn't fit him anyway. Don't know anyone with that name. Highly recommend your friend reads 'Bring Back Beatrice' if she wants uncommon but not odd name ideas.

picnicbasketcase · 30/07/2012 20:01

I don't know anyone called it. I don't like it, it's far too penisy.

tammytoby · 30/07/2012 20:28

How can Percy be more penisy than Will(y) or Benedict (bendy dick)?

DawnOfTheDee · 30/07/2012 20:30

There is a cat that comes into our garden who's called Percy. He caught a squirrel the other day.

picnicbasketcase · 30/07/2012 20:31

I wouldn't use Willy or Benedict either. Or Ralph, Gilbert or Peter.

No offence to anyone with a DS with any of those names.

Passmethecrisps · 30/07/2012 20:33

Cat facts are never unhelpful

Actually, I think Percy is rather lovely. Made me smile.

I have never taught a percy. If I did I imagine him being cute as a wee button with spectacles.

iseenodust · 30/07/2012 20:37

Because men 'point Percy at the porcelain'.
Also he was wet in Blackadder.

PenelopeChipShop · 30/07/2012 20:37

Don't know any. Only one I can think of is a character in a novel. I'd say she is probbly safe with that name if she wants to be unusual.

stookiesackhouse · 30/07/2012 20:38

I love Percy. If I have a son it will be a front runner :)

usualsuspect · 30/07/2012 20:38

I doubt many people will know a baby Percy TBH.

BigHairyFlowers · 30/07/2012 20:41

Wouldn't a baby Percy be a piglet?

DawnOfTheDee · 30/07/2012 20:42

I do quite like the name actually but can only really see it on a little boy.

It just doesn't sound very manly i guess. One day the boy will become a man....and he'll (most likely) want a girlfriend.....just can't really hear "Oh Percy!" being cried out in a fit of passion. I know this is a bit creepy considering this is a baby names thread but i'm a big believer in equipping your DC well for their whole lives...Grin

YusMilady · 30/07/2012 20:44

My grandad was called Percy. Tis a nice name. But if your friend really wants to be 'different' she should call her son Brian. Or Keith.

iseenodust · 30/07/2012 20:44

Grin at piglet

MammyToMany · 30/07/2012 20:47

I know of a 12 month old Percy

usualsuspect · 30/07/2012 20:47

I don't think a teenager would thank you for the name Percy.
