I'm starting to really like this name. And of course it always was a girl's name (the car being named after someone's daughter).

But is it actually possible to get past the whole car business? Would you be subjected to a lifetime of uninformed people hoiking up their judgey pants?

You could use it as a middle name?

Is it the sound or the meaning you like? If it's the meaning, you could probably bung in into google translate and get loads of similar girls' names as it would be common I think. Or maybe people can suggest similar sounding names?

(I have sympathy, btw, as I have a soft spot for Annunziata as a name and there is No Way In Hell DH would let me use that, I know! But it sounds so nice ...)

People like Gladys? Shock Has mn been invaded by the bowling club?!

Annunziata · 27/07/2012 13:14

I think you'd need a Hispanic surname.

Annunziata · 27/07/2012 13:15

Yay someone likes my name Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 27/07/2012 13:17

Ooh, hello! Smile

It is a gorgeous name. I just love it and I love all those old paintings of the Annunciation too, so it has lovely resonances for me. But sadly ... no, I couldn't use it!

Annunziata · 27/07/2012 13:19

Thank you! It's grown on me as I've got older. I actually go by my middle name though.

Boggler · 27/07/2012 13:20

I think it's a lovely name But only if pronounced correctly, I would hate it if my lo was being called the same way as the car, make sure you can say it correctly otherwise you're going to look a bit dull.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 27/07/2012 13:20

Oh, it's your real name?! Wow.

How beautiful.

Annunziata · 27/07/2012 13:27

Thank you :)

It's the sound of it. Mercedes. I've never really thought about it before and I'm not bothered about the cars particularly - it just jumped into my head a couple of months ago and it's just gone from there.

Annunziata is quite nice as well, although that conjures up a Spanish girl in a Confirmation dress with her hands in prayer.

Dolores? Personally I don't care for that for the meaning, but it's similar. I bet there are others.

TalHotBlond · 27/07/2012 13:51

I wouldn't.

I loved the name Portia when pregnant but couldn't bring myself to use it for similar car/chavvy connotations even though the spelling/pronunciation is off.

honeytea · 27/07/2012 15:06

Personally I can't separate the name from the car, I'd opt for something with fewer car connotations unless it has a really important meaning to you.

Annunziata · 27/07/2012 15:42

Of you (and your partner) like it, go for it.

Marcella is similar?

TuesdayNightClub · 29/07/2012 10:09

I like it and particularly the NN Mercy. I wouldn't use it though particularly as I drive one as I'm just not brave enough. On the right girl it could be great.

In saying that, I've always loved Elise and the few people I've mentioned it to have mentioned the car connection - I would still like to use it.

VolAuVent · 29/07/2012 11:54

I don't like it.

FineAndDandi · 29/07/2012 15:27

lovely name but definitely chavtastic.... it's right up there with the chardonays, armanis and chanels!
