Iris and ???

We are struggling to find a girls name we like, our DD is Iris. We have been ruling out names beginning with B and those ending in -y or -ie because they don't sound great with our surname, but we are desperate now so if we find a name we like we may waiver our rules! All suggestions appreciated...

Thanks so much for all your replies! Some great suggestions on here, I'm currently running them past DP. I really like quite a few of them, will return in a while with a shortlist! Thanks so much for all your suggestions.

I wouldn't choose pippa as she she'd just be a reminder of someone else but love love love Constance or Pearl

emsibub · 23/07/2012 21:41

Awww how cute is Olive (Olive & Iris ) arrrrrrrrhhh

jenbird · 23/07/2012 23:02

Josephine

Texmex · 24/07/2012 08:51

I love Olive too and think it goes really nicely with Iris, but not sure as a friend has just called her baby Olivia. Too similar?

I think of Olivia an Olive as completely different names do wouldn't worry about that. Is it a friend you see on a regular basis?

tummytickler · 24/07/2012 10:38

Hmm. I think of them a completely different names too, and agree it goes beautifully with Iris. But, personally, I wouldn't name a dd Olive if a friend had an Olivia.
Which names are you liking?

Texmex · 24/07/2012 12:09

Well, my favourite is Meryl but OH is absolutely not going for that at the moment. We both liked Elsa or Elsie, and I still do but OH not sure on this either. So other names that one or other of us likes (but not both so we still can't agree!)
Meredith
Edith
Beatrice
Amy (DD's choice!)
Felicity
Emelda

I was hoping a name I hadn't thought of would jump out and we'd both agree, but it seems that's unlikely! Only a few days until the baby is due, if it's a boy it will be a lot easier!

Pick anything but Amy!!! Beatrice and Felicity would be my faves from that list and go with the style of Iris!

tummytickler · 24/07/2012 12:47

Meryl is nice! We had Beryl picked if we got dd3 (we haven't yet though, still just Iris and Pearl)
From the list I like Felicity, Elsa or Emelda.
Not keen on Amy at all (sorry your dd!)

What have you picked for a boy?

Texmex · 24/07/2012 12:56

I love Meryl too (and Beryl, good choice!), can't understand why OH won't go for it! Glad Elsa has another vote, I still really like it, though I was a bit worried it would get mixed up with the Ella or Ellies which seem quite popular and she would have to correct people quite a lot or have it mis-spelt etc. We are not overly keen on Amy but have decided it will have to be if we can't agree on anything else!

I daren't tell you our boys name, no one likes it! We have loved it for a long time though so are going with it anyway!

Nobody loved our boys name either (or any of them actually!) but we used it anyway - dying to know now Grin

Texmex · 24/07/2012 13:13

Oh ok, you've persuaded me as no-one likes any names I pick either! It's Ernest.

OP posts:
Pasiphae · 24/07/2012 13:48

Yes, you can! It's lovely.
Not sure I like Ernie, though.

kickingKcurlyC · 24/07/2012 14:09

I like Amy! I think Iris and Amy sound lovely together!

Also I like Emelda, and Elsa or Elsie.

I much prefer Beryl to Meryl.

HerRoyalNotness · 24/07/2012 14:14

Ernest is just fine, we now a mid 20s Ernest, that we call Erns. It has an old school cool about it.

FuckityFuckFuck · 24/07/2012 14:16

In my family we have

Iris
Irene
Nicola

Not saying which one I am though Wink

tummytickler · 24/07/2012 14:47

I love Ernest. It is super cool! Iris and Ernest area fab pair!

Texmex · 24/07/2012 19:17

Yay, at least our boy's name is sorted then!

Funnily enough we were discussing Nicola the other day, I really like it but we have quite a few friends with the same name so it would seem a bit weird! I loved Irene a while ago, but since then love Ida more but have decided against it as the initial sound is similar to Iris.
