We can't decide on our girls name

I would love some Thoughts on deciding on a name for our girl, due any day. Our surname begins with an A and ends in L so we have ruled out a lot of names that simply don't work.
We like
Audrey
Daisy
Tilly
Ivy
Dorothy nn Dotty/Dolly
Nancy
Suki
We prefer more unusual names. Help please we are going round in circles.

From your list I like Audrey best. I wouldn't worry too much about settling on one until you meet her though. We had a list of 3 names we liked for DS and chose when we saw him, he completely didn't look like one of the names was one of the first things DH and I said on seeing him! His name is one of the others we had on the list and is completely him.

Tamsin
Tamar/Tamara
Kerstin
Stella
Vivienne

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 21:48

I keep telling myself this strawberry, as we knew immediately when DS was born. But at least then we had narrowed it down to two.

We have three Tillys in our play group so if you like unusual you may want to avoid it!

Enid?

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 21:54

I suspected this peachypips, it's what puts me off the name. Which is a shame as I've liked it forever.

I love Enid but DH doesn't like it.

I like nancy from your list. Other possibilities...
Delilah (nn dilly)
Lois
Maggie
Edith (Edie) although I think this one will become more popular soon.

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 22:04

I like Edith.

Audrey - Love
Daisy - OK
Tilly - not keen
Ivy - not for me this one
Dorothy nn Dotty/Dolly - love
Nancy - love
Suki - not sure

My Gran's names are on your list. She was officially called Audrey but everyone called her Nancy.

BTW we had a short list of names and left the final choice till we met out baby. Well we did for DD and DS1. DS2 didn't have a name for ages as we couldn't think of another boys name we could agree on.

WhereMyMilk · 14/07/2012 22:11

Mabel
Martha
Eleanor
Leah

tummytickler · 14/07/2012 22:14

Love Audrey and Dorothy - both on our list.
Pearl? Grin

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 22:17

DH also dislikes Ivy, I've kept it on the list to see if I can persuade him. He also doesn't like Nancy but he agreed it can stay on the list as I love it. His favourites are Dotty and Audrey I love, the only thing I question about it is that, one of our cats is called Audrey. Yes I know that would be a bit odd.Grin

tummytickler · 14/07/2012 22:19

Oh no - if your cat is called Audrey you can't call your baby Audrey. Is your cat still alive and living with you?

COCKadoodledooo · 14/07/2012 22:20

Audrey or Dorothy. Dolly not Dotty though.

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 22:20

We both really love Pearl, but is difficult to say with the surname and also, together with the surname, can be the name of an object. So it has been veto'd.

OP posts:
yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 22:22

Yes, cat is still with us. Cat is named after Hepburn. DH really likes the cat.

I second the poster that said avoid Tilly if you want something more unusual... it's very overused popular... there were two in the swimming pool this morning. Shame, cause it's a nice name.

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 22:25

When people in RL have seen my name list they've hated everything. Which is helpful.

amck5700 · 14/07/2012 22:28

just rename the cat something that sounds smilar - e.g. strawberry. Having said that much as I like Audrey Hepburn, I can't imagine a baby with that name

EBDTeacher · 14/07/2012 22:32

I really like Audrey.

Could you change the cat's name, to Oddie or something similar, before DD's arrival? IME cat won't be bothered as long as you feed her. Grin

Or Odette for your DD?

EBDTeacher · 14/07/2012 22:33

Hepsibah for cat- or DD?

cece · 14/07/2012 22:34

How about Verity?

strawberrypenguin · 14/07/2012 22:35

Don't let the cat put you off our DS has the same name as one of MILs cats that DH lived with do years. Cat is still alive and is known as 'the furry one' Grin
