We can't decide on our girls name

I would love some Thoughts on deciding on a name for our girl, due any day. Our surname begins with an A and ends in L so we have ruled out a lot of names that simply don't work.
We like
Audrey
Daisy
Tilly
Ivy
Dorothy nn Dotty/Dolly
Nancy
Suki
We prefer more unusual names. Help please we are going round in circles.

Rather oddly, Tabitha was veto'd for sounding like a cat's name. The name we had chosen if she were a boy is the name of my best friends cat.
I think you have confirmed my thoughts on Tilly, so I have a reason to cross it off now. Glad you like the other names. DH always shortens a name because he has always been known by the short version of his name, whereas my name was never shortened, till I met DH, who has never called me by my full name. So it's been tricky choosing something. With DS his name is shortened and then I lengthen it to something absurdly long and silly.

We had a horrid boss called Verity once.

I've always liked Agnes but DH has vetoed it for this DC - you can have it if you like. Wink

Aah ginpalace, I love that name. Sadly DH doesn't. Sad

i like Ivy as well actually,, its lovely :)

Devora · 14/07/2012 23:22

Audrey is lovely.

twonker · 14/07/2012 23:24

If you like Tilly, consider Tirril, with nn Tilly.

yellowledbetter · 14/07/2012 23:29

VolAuVent there are done really nice names on there thank you. I will show DH. But one of them is pretty much my surname if you take off the last three letters and another is the female version of DS name. Smile

I'm really surprised that Audrey and Dorothy are liked. These are DH's choices.

Audrey - v nice but you would need to rename the cat
Daisy - v nice
Tilly - prefer Matilda with Tilly as nn
Ivy - nice
Dorothy nn Dotty/Dolly - I want to like this but still seems a bit old to me, I think I am not very up to date though
Nancy - OK, associate with the Camerons, does that bother you?
Suki - OK but is it not a nn for Susannah or something? I like Susannah

My mother was
Lucy Selina Naomi (historical family names, Selina was a great grandmother from the 19th century) I loved them, she hated them!

just thought I'd throw that into the mix!

threeleftfeet · 14/07/2012 23:38

Love Suki!

peachypips · 15/07/2012 13:26

I'm glad Tilly is gone- couldn't have coped with another one! I absolutely love both Ivy and Suki- not met any of either of them and they are pretty and feminine.
How about Viola? Or Charity?
