Is it a bit too Rooney-esque? I love it but have had bad reactions from others towards it. FWIW I've never met a little Kai, so have no preconceptions about the name, I just think it sounds nice!

It's not a naff name in the part of England I live in

CrampedUpMissPiggy · 07/07/2012 20:05

Sorry, it's just a bit too WAG. How about Jonah to go with Jesse? Or Cain?

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 20:06

If you like it go for it!

My sons name would get a ripped apart on here but I'm not bothered.

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 20:08

MN would explode if I posted my Grandsons names on here Grin

Bunbaker · 07/07/2012 20:09

"It's not a naff name in the part of England I live in"

It's very WAG where I live. Sorry, but it's a bit Kylie, Jayden, Kaden, hyphenated name etc to me.

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 20:11

We don't tend to have many WAGS live around here TBH.

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 20:14

I need to know now usual! Grin

The spelling of my sons sends people brains in to over drive!

Think we mentioned the names at the same time MN would just disappear into a puff of smoke?

Savannahgirl · 07/07/2012 20:16

I agree with the Jayden, Hayden connotations.

It also makes me think of Wayne Rooney who I think is vile!

Hence I really don't like it.

But if you like it and want it for your son, then you should absolutely go ahead and choose it.

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 20:17

The baby names topic would never be the same again Grin The sharp intake of breaths would send it of line for ever.

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 20:19

Share it!

Mine is also a K name! Now I know K names don't go down well on here Grin

popsypie · 07/07/2012 20:21

I don't think it is chavvy. It makes me think of Ireland for some reason. If you like it go for it.

Thatsnotmypenguin · 07/07/2012 20:24

TBH I assumed it was short for Mordecai (sp?), aside from that I think it will be a common name in school IYSWIM.

Pochemuchka · 07/07/2012 21:08

SPsfanjo - I'm dying to know if your son has the same name as mine!
Also a 'K' name starting with Kai. . . MN would rip it apart too! Grin

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 21:11

His name is Kailum

MN will now blow up!

Pochemuchka · 07/07/2012 21:17

That's a lovely name, SPsfanjo.
Wait for it (totally outing myself here!) mine is worse: Kairon, pronounced 'kye -ron'.

And just to make it EVEN worse? It's an unusual spelling of 'Chiron'.

*disclaimer - I have only had compliments on it in real life but they could all just be being nice, right?

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 21:18

I like that! His name isn't pronounced as Kai though it Kay. I thought it would work until Kai Rooney appeared

Annie421 · 07/07/2012 21:19

I know a little Kai ... his parents are covered in tattoos and live in a council flat ... don't do it!!! .... his twin brother is Kayden.

Pochemuchka · 07/07/2012 21:26

It's funny, SPsfanjo - I knew how to pronounce your son's name as soon as I read it, but I bet people say 'kye -lum' all the time.
I get Kay -Ron and care-Ron as mispronunciations so the Rooneys have obviously passed those people by!

PrettyInDecadence · 07/07/2012 21:55

We actually considered using it as a nickname for Malachi, Thatsnotmypenguin, but not sure it's worth the faff to be honest. I think I'm contributing the the explosion of the baby names topic here, considering putting a nickname on the birth certificate :o

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:56

Whats wrong with living in a council flat?

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/07/2012 22:08

Don't like it personally - too common and for me has Jeremy Kyle family connotations. Grin
I've also never come across a well behaved Kai... Grin

SilkStalkings · 07/07/2012 22:29

Depends where you live. In Hampshire Kai is pronounced like the more expensive type of goldfish. Tyler sounds like Toilet.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/07/2012 22:47

Malachi - now there's a name I have always loved.

SecondhandRose · 07/07/2012 23:08

I too love Malachi or Malachy.

Devora · 07/07/2012 23:11

I know an adult Kai and a 5 year old one. It wouldn't be my choice of name (unlike, say, Malachi, which is fab) but I don't dislike it at all.
