Winston?

DH and I both keep coming back to it and
I think I really like it but then I start having doubts!

We generally seem to like solid traditional names that are not over used but not uncommon either.

Love it!

Also love Tristan and Quentin.

tammytoby · 05/07/2012 09:26

Winston is great. Good, solid classic name. I think Billy Piper's son is Winston.

iseenodust · 05/07/2012 10:35

Like it.
Quentin is not in same league.

amck5700 · 05/07/2012 11:32

well they do say that all babies look like Winston Churchill!! I am however imagining a large afro carribean bloke when i hear that name :) What about Montgomery (Monty)?

Badgerina · 05/07/2012 12:00

Not keen.

bigbluebump · 05/07/2012 12:02

I like Winston. Cool and a little quirky. And underused. Great choice.

(I also like Quentin but am biased as I have one Smile)

Or how about Clement?

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 13:17

It's harsh and ugly.Perhaps ok as a middle name, but definitely not as a first.

Littlecherublegs · 05/07/2012 14:12

Not keen, sorry.

How about Wilson? I prefer that and Wil would be a nice nn.

VolAuVent · 05/07/2012 14:35

I like it.

birdofthenorth · 05/07/2012 16:56

Really like it. A lot.

rowingdowntheriver · 05/07/2012 18:15

Am just back from work and checking Mumsnet, thanks everyone for their responses!

Wilson is a good suggestion too and it also goes well with our surname so I'll think about that one too.

I don't like it, but he's your baby, so only your opinion really matters :)

I'm not keen on Wilson either, but I prefer it to Winston - if that helps?!

TouTou · 05/07/2012 18:21

Its great.

kickingKcurlyC · 05/07/2012 18:23

Not Wilson, he'd sound like he had two surnames.

Winston however, is great.

Lastofthepodpeople · 05/07/2012 18:24

I like Winston.

DontmindifIdo · 05/07/2012 18:26

It's a lovely name - quirky but 'real' and solid (anyone who comments, you can say "surely you've heard of Winston Churchill?" and give them a 'pitying because they are obviously thick' look Wink ).

LynetteScavo · 05/07/2012 18:27

I really like it.

I think all sorts of Characters could pull it off.

I immediately thought of that character in EE who works on the market and never actually says anything, rather than Churchill. Blush

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 18:51

Wilson is much nicer.

LynetteScavo · 05/07/2012 19:16

No, it's not.

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 19:21

Yes it is!Grin It's much 'cooler' too.

LynetteScavo · 05/07/2012 19:24

No, really, it's not! Grin

It makes me think of the volleyball in Cast Away.

(You are now going to tell me your son is called Wilson, aren't you!)

TouTou · 05/07/2012 19:27

Hear hear Lynette. I'll fight your corner. For me, Wilson will always be a ball. Winston on the other hand, is a jaunty, cool, underused, patriotic name.

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 19:36

LOL.No,don't worry. i don't have any children yet.

There's a gorgeous little Wilson in MadHot Ballroom, one of my favourite documentaries/films,and he really suited the name. He's from The Dominican Republic though, where it seems to be rather popular.

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 19:38

I haven't seen Cast Away.
