Winston?

DH and I both keep coming back to it and
I think I really like it but then I start having doubts!

We generally seem to like solid traditional names that are not over used but not uncommon either.

Is Billie Piper 'cool'?

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 05/07/2012 20:05

Winston is much nicer than Wilson IMO!

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 20:06

Her Winston looks nothing like a Winston, and didn't she also call her second child 'Eugene'?Hmm I wouldn't be taking naming tips from her.Grin

ThatllDoPig · 05/07/2012 20:08

Watch it, its a great film.

But if you have a child called Wilson and you lose him at the shops and are calling for him slightly panicky, people (well, me) will think of the film. Not that thats a bad thing.

I like both Wilson and Winston.

AThingInYourLife · 05/07/2012 20:08

Winston is faintly ridiculous as a name.

Cheriefroufrou · 05/07/2012 20:11

its okay, prefer it to Wilson, Wilson is a bit wet and Winston is stronger

not sure everyone could carry it off, would be a good name for a confident child and a crappy name on someone shy

evamummy · 05/07/2012 20:23

I really like Winston. Sounds strong and masculine.

Don't like Wilson at all, sorry. Sounds American and reminds me of golf balls.

rowingdowntheriver · 05/07/2012 21:03

I'm getting quite excited about Winston now but then I have brief moments where I kind of agree it is a bit ridiculous but I honestly don't know why?!

Cast Away is NOT a good film! Soooo boring, he spends the whole time on an island with a ball Hmm Grin

ThatllDoPig · 05/07/2012 21:55

The ball is cool!

And its not boring that bit where he makes the fire. And has do dentistry in a cave with an ice skate.

And eyeballs a whale
What more do you want in a film!
Grin

rowingdowntheriver · 05/07/2012 22:02

I've not seen castaway but think I might need to now! Is it the one with George Clooney?

Winston is a great name!

I think 'solid' sounding names will become more popular as people get tired of the recent 'cutesy' names.

FreelanceMama · 05/07/2012 22:10

Wilson was also the name of the neighbour in Home Improvement. Winston was Lenny Henry's sidekick when he played the character of a DJ on Crucial FM! I had a similar shall we/shan't we with the names Percy and Arthur. And then our son was born and the names just didn't fit him. So we went for Tobias with Montgomery as middle name.
Highly recommend you read 'Bring Back Beatrice' - excellent names and great advice on how to make your choice.

MrsRhettButler · 05/07/2012 22:21

No, its Tom boring Hanks Grin

Springforward · 05/07/2012 22:21
  1. How do you feel about the association?
Katieswimmer · 05/07/2012 22:27

I'm not so sure. I guess it just feels a little pretentious to me. Mind you, it would probably be really sweet on a little boy but I'm not sure how he'd feel about it when he was older! It's just so far removed from names these days. Not that modern names are necessarily good, but the classics, e.g. Joseph, Sarah, Rebekah, are the ones that never seem to date, whereas I find Winston dated. The other thing to think about is that he might be nicknamed Winnie? However, it's cool to be different and no doubt your boy will be absolutely beautiful no matter what you call him! What other names are you considering?

MrsRhettButler · 05/07/2012 22:30

Funny thing is pig, all that passed me by, honestly all I I remember is thinking why did I bother to watch that to the end?

rowingdowntheriver · 05/07/2012 22:33

We've been really struggling katie, maybe Lawrence? Or Leo?
