we have a longish surname so 1 or 2 syllables sounds best. Suggestions could be pretty 'way out' or maybe classic but under-used. Coco is on my list and love blythe and posey but for various reason can't have these last two. Help me add to my list please!

Oh, how annoying! Aren't we supposed to get a warning if it is a zombie thread?

florascotianew · 08/09/2017 11:50

I know this is a zombie thread - and absolutely no disrespect to anyone's aunt - but just for information can I mention that the standard modern Gaelic spelling of the name 'Ea' mentioned above that means 'fire' is Aodh (in Old Irish 'Aed'). The sound is much the same.

English versions of Aodh include 'Aidan' and 'Edan'.

In Celtic myths, Aed/Aodh is the name of a Sun god. So traditionally it's a boy's name.
