DS1 (aged 7) has a couple of suggestions

I've posted in the past for ideas and thoughts but have a few more from DS which I love but am not sure I'm brave enough to use!

Background: we have a big scottishy double barrelled surname, and we have Alec and Hugh already. We don't know what this baby is so are looking at boy or girl options.

Anyway, are

too silly?

Boys names in the mix are Angus, Magnus, Sholto, with the family middle name of Carter.

Congratulations! I like Angus, but the others are too trendy posh for me. I'm surprised how often they pop up on these threads. I'd never heard of Sholto before MN!

Magnus Carter? I like Athena but when I hear Artemis I just think Fowl.

DH family v posh, me v not posh and kids go to state primary hence the worry some of the names are a bit much

Which is why Duncan is such a good choice.

I think Athena and Artemis are both great for girls. You'd get a few raises eyebrows at first but there's absolutely nothing wrong with them.

I think Athena is lovely. Artemis is great too but it is suffers from being associated as a boys' name due to Artemis Fowl and I fear it would be a difficult name to wear. I'd be inclined towards something a little less unusual, personally, as your boys' names fall into the well-known but not over-used category. Athena is unusual too but sounds like lots of popular names with its 'a' ending.

You might also like Helena, Theodora, Thea, Leah?

I love Artemis for a girl and Angus or Magnus for a boy.

I also love Athena, Theodora, Antonia for girls.

And how about Dominic, Thaddeus, Quentin, Marcus for boys?

How can you say someone is posh based on their NAME alone?! I just don't get that. A person might be posh (if at all), but a name is just that, a name or identifier. In my experience a person just 'becomes' their name, not the other way round.

So, choose the names you love and let your child's personality and character determine who they are!

Hector means 'to bully' or 'to torment' which I don't think is very nice, personally. Love Douglas though!

"hector" as a name dies not mean to bully, it means "holding strong"

Lots of names have alternative "verb-meanings" ; jack (ahem), John, Harry etc!

What about Clio, as in the Muse not Cleopatra?

I have a Clio car (which i love) but there might be a lot of people who associate it with that.

what about Ailsa, Elspeth, Greer or Ainslie for a girl.
