Miriam, Isaac, Esther, Elijah and...

What would you put with this lot?

Miriam Audrey
Isaac Edmund
Esther Maude
Elijah Francis

I think it kind of has to be another biblical fn. I'd preferably like a saint (and one that I like) in mn position.

Boy names so far include: Jeremiah, Moses, David, Reuben
Girl names so far include: Lydia, Keziah, Judith

You must be quite religious with those names!

Emphaticmaybe · 22/06/2012 14:52

Wow those names are great.
Really like Moses and Keziah - either of these would go well with the rest of your gang,Smile

PandaG · 22/06/2012 14:55

Hannah Ruth, Suzannah Ruth or Rose maybe,

Daniel Stephen, Matthew Antony, Micah John

timetosmile · 22/06/2012 14:56

Rebekah, Madeleine (Magdaleine), Ruth, Francis, Eve, Sarah

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John (glaring ommissions from your little gang!) Joel Joseph

cairnterrier · 22/06/2012 14:57

Sarah for me was the obvious missing girl's name. Love the list though.

FfoFfycsecs · 22/06/2012 14:59

BEAUTIFUL names.
Josiah would go well.

Surf25 · 22/06/2012 15:08

Anna
Naomi
Lydia
Rebekah
Martha

Joel
Nathan
Jonathan
Gideon
Samuel
Solomon
Micah

middle namess...Helena, Benedict, Ava, Mary (though maybe not with Martha!)

Surf25 · 22/06/2012 15:10

Oops pressed too soon.

Other mns...Patrick, Theordora, Augustine, Lucy?

muddledsheep · 22/06/2012 15:12

I have a Reuben and a Jacob...lovely lovely names for your DC & on your list. No girls here but I would have chosen Ruth (and you already have an Esther!) Other girls perhaps Phoebe? Love Sarah and Anna tho. Oo love Seth too!

StepOutOfSpring · 22/06/2012 15:28

Lydia for a girl, David or Jeremiah for a boy.

eatyourveg · 22/06/2012 15:32

I thought of Ruth straight away. Always wanted a Jeremiah or a Noah. Otherwise what about Joel, Malachi and Obadiah and Ezra

mysteryfairy · 22/06/2012 15:33

Jemima is a fab girl's old testament name. I also think Leah would go quite well with your collection.

I have two DSs with old testament names (you've already covered one of them in your little brood) and if I'd been lucky enough to have had a third he would have been Jude - love that name. If this might be your last DC I also think Benjamin, whilst a bit commoner than your other choices, is lovely for it's meaning of youngest son.

For saint's names can I recommend the Oxford dictionary of saints. My and my DSis spent many happy hours pouring over that pre-confirmation (though there is an annoying bias in favour of saintly men!).

We're not particularly devout catholics now but have been to Fatima and my DD loves the story of the shepherd children so if it was me I would probably consider Jacinta or Lucia for a girl's middle name. I think Francisco is out though as you already have Francis.

MagdalenaAlec · 22/06/2012 15:34

Very nice list OP!
Judith and Reuben or David would be great with the rest of your family!

How about:
Rachel
Hannah
Martha
Salome

Simon
Aaron
Nathaniel
Joshua
Cyrus

I agree, Benedict would be a really nice mn.

RillaBlythe · 22/06/2012 15:46

lovely names OP.

BalloonSlayer · 22/06/2012 15:51

There's an old fashioned term for a misery-guts: "he's a bit of a Jeremiah." Based on the book of Jeremiah being a bit doom-and-gloom.

I wouldn't go for that one for that reason.

Love Reuben and David.

Other people have suggested lots of nice girls names but I like yours too.

Love Biblical names, me Grin

Bucharest · 22/06/2012 15:51

I know a family with just those names.......Grin

I like Leah mucho mucho. I think a lot of people might not get either the Lydia or Judith link....I like Keziah, but still think people would think The Diddakoi rather than the Bible.

I'm not going to comment on boys because you're due another girl are you not? (but pleeeeeease not swishyswoshyJoshy)

BalloonSlayer · 22/06/2012 15:53

I like Leah but it also has the "unwanted" "unattractive" connotations from the Bible.

Has anyone said Rachel?

elliejjtiny · 22/06/2012 16:04

I have 1 child with the same name as one of your DC, one on your boys list and one on someone else's suggestion list. This is my shortlist:

boys:
Levi
Micah
Malachi
Jeremiah
Elisha
Matthew
David
Jude
Silas
Hezekiah
Samuel

girls:
Leah
Athaliah (DH's choice, I wanted Miriam, thankfully DS3 was a boy so saved argument Grin)
Sarah
Rachel
Deborah
Anna
Phoebe
Jemima

marmiteandhoney · 22/06/2012 16:08

Bucharest- panic not! If I'd had a son when I was in my teens he'd have been a Joshua. Not now, though :)

There may be a problem with Rachel ;)

Benedict is a great saint, but a Hmm of a pope imo. And I'd worry that people thought it was named after him.

Um, will read later when less covered by whiny post-school children demanding snacks and computer time and give some more opinions!

ThighsTheLimit · 22/06/2012 16:11

I know a family with an Isaac and and Elijah. They also have a Lean and Keziah.

I like Rachael, Naomi, Eve, Ruth, Asher, Caleb, Aaron, Jesse.

BalloonSlayer · 22/06/2012 16:12

Is Phoebe in the Bible?

I never knew that! I thought it was an ancient Greek name.

What did the Biblical Phoebe do then?

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 22/06/2012 16:16

Josiah, Gideon, Reuben or David
Ruth, Tabitha, Lydia... I do like Keziah but the Kezz-eye-er vs Kez-Eee-er would drive me mad.

Surf25 · 22/06/2012 16:20

Phoebe is an ancient greek name - and also in the Bible! in the Bible in Romans Paul mentions Phoebe who is a deacon (served in the church) near or in corinth in greece. He recommends her to the Romans, who he is writing the letter to.

The same chapter has some interesting other names that people probably wouldn't think of as biblical either like Rufus, Lucius, Jason, Julia and Priscilla! Julia is nice!

Bucharest · 22/06/2012 17:49

Naomi! I love Naomi!

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 22/06/2012 17:51

I love Keziah. Or Naomi.

Josiah for a boy. Tis my name crush. With the nickname Jed.
