Help me decide on a boys name for DS2

TurkeyDino · 21/06/2012 16:55

DS2 is due in 9 weeks and DH and I are struggling to agree on a name for him.

DS1 is Daniel James

DS2 will have the middle name Laurence, which I love as a first name but it's just too 'posh' for us, it doesn't really fit well for us we don't think.

So far the front runners are;
Oliver
Harry
Ryan

Any preferences or further suggestions?

Our surname is King.

(I know this outs me, hence the name change!)

Love Daniel James and dont mind any of your suggestions for DS2 though in order of preference it would be:
Ryan
Oliver
Harry

Of the Daniel's I know their brothers are called Thomas and Simon.

How about:
Joseph
Nathan
Leon
Joel
Aidan
Ciaran

Harry's the nicest by far!! You other boy here is called Oliver and I'm not exaggerating!

Nathan is my first choice but DH hates it!

Seems like Harry is in the lead at the moment, we really like Ryan but we do think it has the 'naughty boy' association.

Harry and Oliver are very, very widely used already! I'm not keen on Ryan, sorry.

How about these classic but not overused names
Simon
Michael
Jonathan
Robert
Quentin
Dominic
Peter
Gregory

scarlettsmummy2 · 21/06/2012 19:42

I like Henry! Bit like harry but not as used!

shouldbedoingtheironing · 21/06/2012 20:06

Laurence isn't that posh! You could shorten to Laurie which I love as a nn.

Laurence King sounds perfect Smile

I like your other choices although less keen on Ryan.

CuppaTeaJanice · 21/06/2012 20:11

Laurie is much nicer than your other choices. You don't have to use the long version.

StepOutOfSpring · 21/06/2012 20:32

Jacob Laurence
Max Laurence
Edward Laurence
Elliot Laurence
Aaron Laurence

bigbluebump · 21/06/2012 20:36

Laurence is the female version of Lauren in French. Like Florence is to Florent. I'd spell it Lawrence for a boy. And yes, it is lovely!

Surf25 · 21/06/2012 20:47

laurence nn laurie, or just laurie, is a brilliant name! use it! Sounds cool with your surname too. IMO much nicer than your other options...but that's just me! Do you like Nathan, or Nathaniel, or Elliot?
Just pick a name you love Smile

Figgygal · 21/06/2012 20:51

My DS is Daniel James too Grin

If we have a DS2 he will be Robert, Henry or Jonathan not sure if any of those are for you?

TurkeyDino · 21/06/2012 22:12

Gahhhh! There are just no names that I love! DS1's name came so easily, we're 11 weeks into boys name discussions and no further forward.

I think I'm starting to lose the plot with names as this week I have seriously considered Spencer, Rudy and Milo... I don't even know if they're good names!

OP posts:
Figgygal · 21/06/2012 22:14

Don't like any of those 3 most recent ones there sorry.

Byzantina · 21/06/2012 22:15

Oliver is nice, but incredibly popular.

Rudy is very cool, but hated on MN Grin

TurkeyDino · 21/06/2012 22:20

DH hates the most recent 3 too so they're not really on the running. I do like Robert, and it's my best friend's name but again DH not keen.

DS is suggesting we go with 'baby brother' Grin

sausageandpickle · 21/06/2012 22:24

Daniel and James are parts of my sons names - between them we have also used Zac, Ben, Mark and Thomas. Other names that seem to me to go with Daniel, could be
Owen Lawrence
George Lawrence
Joshua Lawrence
Luke (maybe not with Lawrence)

StepOutOfSpring · 21/06/2012 23:51

Sounds like your DH isn't keen on some of your suggestions, but what sort of names does he like? What ideas has he had? Tell us and we can try to suggest something that's a compromise between your different tastes in names.

Lannie33 · 22/06/2012 03:39

RYAN!!!!!!! Beautiful sound to it.

TurkeyDino · 22/06/2012 07:06

DH likes Charlie and Alfie. He's quite set on Oliver now but I'm not 100% on it.

OP posts:
ViolaCrayola · 22/06/2012 07:28

I like Laurence/Laurie the best!

TurkeyDino · 22/06/2012 09:57

I'm now in the Laurence/Laurie camp too... just need to convince DH. It was his bloody suggestion as a middle name anyway.

He thinks it's too posh more than I do, even though it was his Grandad's name who was not remotely posh!

OP posts:
evamummy · 22/06/2012 10:34

I'd also spell it Lawrence. Laurence is a girls' name in France, like Florence.

Also, how can a name be posh? A person might be considered posh but a name? I believe a person makes his name, not the other way round.

smokeandglitter · 22/06/2012 11:36

I like Ryan Laurence, it sounds really nice. I love the name Oliver, but if you feel Laurence sounds too posh I think Oliver might highlight that? Oliver would be my favourite though. Smile

iseenodust · 22/06/2012 11:39

Another vote for Lawrence as first name.
