hi ladies, like both these names for a girl. My OH hates Bailey!
What do you all think?
Nn for Lilibet would be Betty or Betsy

Lilibet is already a nickname for Elizabeth, which is much nicer. It was the Queen's childhood nickname!

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2012 21:44

Isn't Lilibet a nn for Elizabeth? Isn't it the Queen's nickname ?
I agree with your OH about Bailey, and I wouldn't think it was a girl's name.

Seona1973 · 18/06/2012 21:44

Lilibet is what my ds called my sister as he couldnt pronounce Elizabeth. I dont like either tbh.

comelywench · 18/06/2012 21:45

Lilibet every time. I think of Bailey as a boy's name. Lilibet is nice.

RillaBlythe · 18/06/2012 21:47

Lilibet is nice. Bailey isn't. What was that tv programme called, 90s, big family, one called Bailey?

debka · 18/06/2012 21:47

Bailey is awful. As is Bailey-Mae, Bailey-Rose or Bailey-Boo.

Lillibet is lovely, but as a nn for Elizabeth, as others have said.

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 18/06/2012 21:48

Lilibet is a nickname for Elizabeth and as I understand it derives from an older sibling mispronouncing. Why not go for Elizabeth and use nickname Lilibet, Betty or Betsy.

Elizabeth gives her a lot more choices when she is older too

If I heard someone calling for Bailey I would assume it was a dog, and if not a boy

What does your DH like?

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 18/06/2012 21:48

Party of Five - Bailey was a boy

RillaBlythe · 18/06/2012 21:51

Thanks EverybodysSleepyEyed! Iirc he was quite cute.

MacMac123 · 18/06/2012 21:55

My OH is fixed in Betty or Betsy. I suggested Lilibet as full name for that. I know it's short for elizabeth but I don't really like the name elizabeth, seems so grand! I thiguht if it was Lilibet them she could decide to be Lily or Betty as an adult.

I agree Bailey sounds like a dog. I like it but it's a name I think I'd regret in time. My DS is called Finn, so need a name that fits with that too.

Wonder if it matters that Lilibet was queens nickname. I just like the name!

I prefer Betsy or Betty as they are or as nn for Elizabeth. Don't like Lilibet as it sounds like lilets, the tampon brand to me. Sorry!

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 18/06/2012 21:58

I think the problem with Lilibet is that it is a pet name rather than a nick name/shortening so doesn't work as a given name.

I much prefer having the proper name but I think Beth is a better name as a shortening.

There must be other names that can be shortened to Betty that you like? Any name with Beth in for example. (struggles to think of any!)

MacMac123 · 18/06/2012 21:59

Oh no hadn't thought of lilettes!

OP posts:
MacMac123 · 18/06/2012 21:59

But still like Lilibet as a first name!
Middle name would be Rose

Lilibet Rose

PorkyandBess · 18/06/2012 22:00

I think they're both horrid, I'm sorry.

I know 2 dogs called Bailey, so I tend to think it's a dog's name.

Lilibet is a nickname.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 18/06/2012 22:01

I know a Bailey, it's a boy oh and i know another one that is a dog - honest. Not a good name for a girl.

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 18/06/2012 22:01

I imagine a Lilibet being a little girl who will scweam and scweam until she gets what she wants!!!

Anyway, Bailey is out as your DH hates it. What does he think of Lilibet?

exoticfruits · 18/06/2012 22:03

Neither.
Have Elizabeth and call her Lilibet until she chooses her own nickname.

FootballFriendSays · 18/06/2012 22:07

Why not Rose as first name? Better than both Lilliber and Bailey.

Northernlurker · 18/06/2012 22:10

Are you out of your mind? Lillibet is NOT a name. It's what the infant Queen mangled her name in to. For her it's cute. For anyone else it's just bizarre.

Your OH is right about Bailey too.

For goodness sake call the wee scrap Betsy. It's a bit wet but better than your other ideas. Or Libby?

StepOutOfSpring · 18/06/2012 22:26

Lillibet is a very cutesy nickname, for a toddler who can't pronounce Elizabeth.

How about Beatrice or Bettina, with Betty for short?

ladymariner · 18/06/2012 22:28

I don't like either, I'm afraid, my friends dog is called Bailey, and Lilibet is just so very twee and it reminds me of those little pottery houses.....sorry

MacMac123 · 18/06/2012 22:34

Wow Lilibet isn't popular! Personally still really like it. MyOH does too but he is oblivious to the Queen connection. He will prob change is mind once he twigs that!!

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 18/06/2012 22:37

Of course you like it! You're pregnant. Your judgement is warped by that Grin Lucky we can save you from yourself Grin

MacMac123 · 18/06/2012 22:39

Inthe days before I was pregnant I loved the name Florence. But have gone off that now.
Other names on my list are
Margo
Tallulah

And have forgotten the others!
