hi ladies, like both these names for a girl. My OH hates Bailey!
What do you all think?
Nn for Lilibet would be Betty or Betsy

My 9 yr old dgd has Betsy as her middle name and I think it is lovely on its own.You could use Bethany or Bethan or Bettina if you wanted a long name other than Elizabeth.
I dont like Bailey and to me Lilibet is just for the Queen.

Springforward · 19/06/2012 19:58

IMO Lilibet is a NN for Elizabeth - which is a much nicer name, with lots of ways to shorten it.

I don't like Bailey, personally, and the only one I know is a boy anyway, so I thought it was a boy's name.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/06/2012 20:54

Lilibet = v sweet
Bailey = not

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/06/2012 20:55

Would go for Elizabeth on b/c though.

MacMac123 · 19/06/2012 21:45

Yippee! Another person likes Lilibet!

I actually don't really like the name Elizabeth, even if just for the birth certificate. Lilibet would give her the option of being Lily, Betty or Bette as an adult if she didn't like Lilibet

What about Lisbeth?

CharlotteLucas · 19/06/2012 21:51

For me, it's not just that Lilibet is a nickname for Elizabeth, it's both that (a) it's very much associated with one prominent person, and will have that resonance for most people in this country - are you prepared to have everyone say 'Oh, after the Queen!' all the time? - and (b) it sounds very obviously like a small child's mispronunciation of a name. I think for me actually naming a child that would be like putting 'Mawy' or 'Biffywiffy' on a birth cert. It seems to me a bit different from naming a child Kitty or Izzy,

(I do know someone who is always known as Biff, after her own toddler mispronunciation of her name, but it's Elizabeth on the birth cert.)

See, I'm not a fan of bailey, but, Lilibet Rose is the name I was hoping to call our next baby if it happened to be a girl asit is the pet names for both grandmothers. I've always heard my df calling my dm Lilibet and her replying dai in return. I think it's lovely

scottishmummy · 19/06/2012 22:15

lilybet is ghastly
sounds contrived
and don't like the royal connection

chipmunksex · 19/06/2012 22:23

Both awful.

Back to drawing board, I'm afraid.

lilibet · 20/06/2012 00:18

No, I'm not actually called Lilibet, my dd is Elizabeth and it was something my dad used to call her for a joke. When I joined mumsnet, it was in my mind as I was struggling for a nickname, she is 23 now and is known as Liz or I sometimes call her Lily, short for the old Lilibet but no one has called her that since she was in primary school.

I love Elizabeth as it's so versatile, what about Eliza?

Sorry but neither Bailey nor Lilibet are to my taste as actual names.

I'm also not keen on Rose as a middle name ...

Elizabeth Rose from the chair and left the room.

(not much use!)

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 20/06/2012 00:20

StepOutOfSpring suggested Lilliana Bethany with Lillibet as nickname on the other thread. I think she's a wise woman.

MacMac123 · 20/06/2012 06:50

She is a wise woman! Grin

Or lili-Rae or Lili-Mai not lillibet sounds like Bet Lynch lols

Admiraltea · 20/06/2012 07:19

I knew OH wasn't listening carefully but he thinks Halibut is really stupid....

go for it...she can win the stupidest name on the register first week at school, though round here there's stiff competition...Peachy or Pocahantas any one?

She will be Lily within a few hours so why give her the pain of being a sanitary product or fish???

Nacomi · 23/10/2020 15:06

I am not sure how you decided to call your daughter in the end, but Lilibet is a wonderful name and in other countries (not UK) it is a name and not a nickname. I would definitely go for it!

LittleTiger007 · 23/10/2020 15:25

Lilibet is lovely but as people have said it is already a nickname for Elizabeth. It’s what her family call the queen.

Bailey to me is a boys name. I’ve taught a fair few boy baileys.

LittleTiger007 · 23/10/2020 15:26

Oh Zombie thread doh 🤦‍♀️

user1493494961 · 23/10/2020 15:41

Use Elizabeth and call her Lilibet as a nickname. Bailey is dreadful.

PoodleMoth · 23/10/2020 20:18

I really like Lilibet! I hate Bailey!

Tillygetsit · 23/10/2020 23:19

Betty sounds fun and would suit her at any age.
